Bottom line here, if you have a hard, relatively secure and dry tonneau cover or cap, you will not miss the trunk.

Agree - especially the OP’s current ride does not even have a trunk:)

The standard Corolla Hatchback has less space than most(all?) of it’s competition. The GR has the same interior with nice “GR” emblems & embroidery.

The main difference is the hand built quality of the GR - with a 300hp 3 cylinder turbo engine, wonderful manual trans, & and race tuned suspension. While the standard Corolla Hatch is $23k to $30k - the GR can go above $50k.

The OP will not miss a trunk. I still think he would be happiest in a Lobo though:)

I confess I have not read all the replies yet (I plan on going back and reading through), but this is what I use in my truck bed to keep some of most used items dry. Note they have latches I can flip up to lock the lids on if I have to open the tonneau cover because of a bigger object. The tonneau works well but it is not 100% dry depending on the rain direction and wind. The tonneau will keep honest people out but your main security is being out of sight out of mind.

What model car trunk are you stuffing them in that you don't need to bend them?
Right after high school (1980's) a friend of ours got a used early 70's Chrysler Newport. That remains the biggest trunk I've ever seen on any car ever (not counting El Caminos, etc.)

She was looking for an apartment at the time and we joked that she should just live in her trunk. (Not the actual car below but close enough)

Ok! That car has more back than a Kardashian. You could stuff a lot of junk in that trunk! :)

I went for the XLT hybrid with the Lux package, It happened to also come with the black appearance package. I could not afford the additional cost of the lariat. The XLT Has enough of the options that I wanted. Decided I would not miss ACC as I never used it anyway on my wife's car.

I put a cap on the truck and a rubber mat in the bed. Cap is completely weather tight. I use it to haul my 2 senior labs around. No more dog hair in the cab! It also locks so I have mostly secure storage. I use a cargo net that keeps groceries from sliding around if I use the back, mostly I use the back seats for small items. There is a whole thread about is > 40K worth it for a lariat. I said no, but that is a personal choice.

I would buy before the 26 model year. Lots of features have been or will be deleted.

What ever Mav you get, I'm sure you will find it amazing. I love ours more every time I get into the cab.

My first mad was a hard tonneau cover and a bed rug. Water drips will happen, but mostly dry and secure. Cover locks with doors. Got mine at Real Trucks. Don't miss having trunk or hatchback.

Thanks for all the replies! Sounds like my fear is unfounded which is great.

Now do I get XLT with luxury package or Lariat. Really don’t want to pay the Lariat price but like adaptive cruise, easier to clean seats, and spray in bed liner. Might just see what I can get the best deal on.
I don't miss my Versa all that much. It was a great little car for commuting. My truck is slightly more efficient, but so much more capable and practical. The bed cover seldom allows any water through. The Maverick rides much better and is good for trips. I took my Lariat on a 2,200 mile trip and we were OK. The same trip in the Versa was uncomfortable. Yeah, the Lariat was more than twice the price of the Nissan. Good luck!

A little background: Always a car guy and love stick shifts. Currently have three small stick shift cars and my wife has her auto Jeep.

Dad recently passed away who was awesome working on cars and now a few things have changed
1. He won’t be here to bail me out if I can’t get my wife’s car fixed quickly. This makes me consider getting rid of my daily GR Corolla in favor of an automatic so she can drive it if needed.
2. I’m going to need to clean out his large garage, my mom will probably be moving soon as well as my grandmother - would be nice to have a bed and ability to tow a trailer. Also nice for my kayak and want to get a bike again in the future.

My current daily is the GR Corolla which is really small but does have a hatch I can put a few bags or stroller or dog into. My main concern with switching is am I going to miss having a secure/dry trunk. With a cover on the bed can you keep things nice in there? Is there a way to lock the bed? Anybody else made this transition and have input?

thanks!
You will love truck
Put a hard top on it right away
They run about 400.00 but so worth it

It’s a Jason Trek, might be called a Ranch Skyline by some dealers. Mid rise gives you a much larger hatch. Also go with fold down front glass to keep your view cleanable, if you go this route.

I have a hard tri-fold tonneau cover and I use the Ford bed divider (expensive, but 3rd party or DIY options work as well) with the rail system to partition off the last section near the rear of the bed. I use that partition as a psuedo-trunk with a few crates that I sized to fit perfectly inside for storage and to elevate things slightly in case there is water ingress. See link below for pictures.
