Just got mine on Monday! The things I dislike are all things I have solutions in mind, or already purchased:
Small cubby- actually i like it, it perfectly fits my rectangle garage door opener vertically and i can wedge it in there. I do have the Akro vent slot mount with usb stuff anyway for my spotify CarThing for a music controller while screen is gps or reverse camera.
Overall vehicle height- was planning on a modest 2 inch lift kit and then a second more aggressive set of tires for winter (ice fishing and overall wisconsin roads)
No roof cargo rack- being a short truck I would have liked an optional rack kit from the factory, but I guess 2 suction cup style for the roof, and with the cargo management system rails, I'll design a modular bed rack to bolt into some nuts that go in those T slot grooves. This will let me haul lumber, ladders, and my kayak(s) and canoe.
The grill design- it isn't my thing, ordering up a raptor style replacement soon.
No dedicated fog lights- got a set of 5 inch wide amber light bars that fit nicely in the bottom grill, will 3d print mounting stuff for that when i get it all wired up.
The bed lights coming on every time i open a door and unlocking it. This one is the only thing i havent figured a solution for yet.

My only complaints are thin paint, the back up camera is hard to see clearly on the screen (don't know if the issue is the screen or the camera this is my first vehicle with a backup camera and a screen) however I am using my mirrors for backing up much more than the camera so not a serious issue for me.

Android auto can be persnickety.

Would have liked a rearview mirror that wasn't manual. Again not a real issue.

I am extremely happy with my Lariat. I understand it is not a luxury high tier vehicle so my expectations are more reasonable even though I spent more money than I have ever spent on a vehicle.

Overall the wait and the cost has definitely been worth it to me.

Apple CarPlay. It works fine for the most part except for incoming calls. We can't hear each other. I have to hang up and call back the person and then it works. It can be slow to load sometimes, too, and glitchy on occasion, e.g. I can pause and play the music from the touchscreen but music comes from the phone only.

My only real serious gripe, and I've beat Ford up on this repeatedly.... is the lack of select-shift. Ford likes to push this as a "real" truck, capable of "real" work (and it is!), then omits select-shift even as an option. WTF? Having that in my F150 was a real spoiler when hauling & towing, as well as extracting max FE. It's just a button & software, not big cost. Come on Ford.....

Otherwise, the Mav is an outrageous value in any trim, all things considered. 110% happy with mine. 🤠

My Ecoboost is expected to arrive any day now. While I twiddle my thumbs waiting for the call, tell me what you don't like about the Maverick so I can taper my expectations.

So far, I've heard of:
  • Bad speaker/sound system.
  • Noisy interior cabin
  • Easily scratched interior

Push button start, hands down. Last time I bought a car, it was 5 years ago and Hyundai had push button start as standard. It's hard going back. It is so nice just leaving your keys in you pocket.

That's an interesting one. I've yet to actually try it but that does sound mildly annoying.
It is actually quite nice to me, once I got used to the whole concept. "Spin it to the right" and you are always in drive. "Spin it to the left" and you are always in park (and you don't even need to do that, just turn it off and it goes to Park). You don't ever need to look at it or count the clicks.

The only time you need to exercise any real care is to shift INTO reverse from Park. Only one click to the right.

Altho shifts from Drive to Reverse aren't common for me, it is just "spin it to the left...then 1 click to the right." They put the "L" in a much better place than with a traditional shifter...out of the normal range of the shifter.

A lot of my issues with this truck have already been said.
Mine is always having to put it into eco mode. Why the car couldn’t be programmed to remember your last setting for that is beyond me. Has nothing to do about it being a cheap truck. It’s like they didn’t think that through… but oh if you turn on your heated seats and turn off the truck and come back… we’ll remember that setting for you. So that’s straight up dumb.
I love the interior. Don’t mind the plastic. Paint seems fine to me. No different then my GTi.
seatbelt warning. At first I was like I don’t see what the big deal is but now I get it. I’ll be driving and wonder what mode I’m in etc. now it’s just annoying. I have multiple buttons to push before I get going.
The hybrid engine continuously vibrating going from gas to electric. It’s really not a smooth ride because of that. So times it’s horrendous. Other times it’s slightly noticeable.
My moms and bosses Toyota Hybrids don’t do anything that the Maverick does when shifting back and forth. Sometimes I feel like I’m going over rumble strips. I have 1300 miles on it.

I don’t have any vibrating with my 22 hybrid with 25k miles. I’m waiting for my 23 hybrid which I will now check for the vibration when it arrives. Have you had it checked? I have a 23 Explorer for a loaner this week and it sort of pulses if you want to experience something other than a smooth ride.

i did. They told me it was normal. Happens to all the hybrids. Then I come on here and see people don’t experience this issue. Some do some don’t.

The dealership I bought it from, 40 miles away, is going to come pick it up and drop me off a loaner to take a look at it. After I get back from vacation

Really surprised how many people don’t like the rotary shift knob.

Saab motor company introduced us to the rotary switch in what, the early 80’s? They were used their jet fighter designs, (Draken, Viggen), and were superior, hence the adoption of every other manufacturer since then. Saab also gave us the first front wheel drive transverse engine design. We can thank that now defunct car company for getting us out of the dark ages in cockpit controls.

Until that point carmakers we’re still using the horrible lever type controls for things like heat and fan speed.
Gross, inaccurate mechanical motions were needed to move these levers. You had to move your entire arm to make adjustments. Rotary controls are a simple flick of the wrist.

Other controls used push/pull knobs which were also inefficient in comparison to rotary.

The rotary shift control is just another adoption of most of our other controls that we use already.

The first time I used a rotary shift control was in some higher end German cars. I didn’t like it at first. Later, I realized the wisdom in such designs. Now I love them.

I also love electronic parking brakes.
Surprised nobody rags about missing a console handle brake, or even worse, a foot pedal lever.

I've only had my hybrid for a week; my complaints are minimal and petty:
Rear seat should be split 50-50 or 60-40.
Hybrid gas cap release is in an awkward place on the dash.
Petty: Turn signal and wiper stalks feel flimsy compared to my Accord.
Really petty: I don't like the PRNDL showing the current gear in orange; to me, any orange light on the dash should only mean PROBLEM. Why not make it blue or green?

like I said, these are minor complaints. I knew what I was getting when I bought it.
