I have a problem with the gremlins. DC/DC converter went bad, deep sleep problems and the driver window switch for the rear passenger window broke. I love the truck, but I'm always waiting for the next shoe to drop.

The Maverick was designed, build and sold as a small, gas efficient and cheap truck. My base Hybrid XL cost me under $20k after rebates, gives me 45.8 mpg after 6 months and is comfortable and a pleasure to drive. Completely happy with it!
Remember if you order a lot of gee-gaws installed it is still the basic cheap Maverick truck underneath.

4. The fuel filler door was supposed to have a release button on the light switch pod. Mine doesn't have that and anyone can vandalize the capless fuel filler. Can't use a locking cap due to the design.
Only the hybrids have a fuel door release.

Very positive about my 22 Maverick Hybrid XLT
3 negatives
1) interior plastic surfs easily
2) close to windshield and front side windows requiring ceramic tint on to cut down on suns rays and heat in Georgia sunshine
3) miss push button start with XLT

I have a 2023 lariat
No front parking sensors
No auto dim rear view mirror
No memory seats
No rain sensing wipers
Giant garbage trap for wiper rest
No power passenger seat
Cheap folding toneau cover
Tire noise
Wind noise
Pretty much my list. Still loving it though. Debating on a graphene treatment. Had memory seats on my Lexus and CR-V so handy when the wife needs to drive it. Don't find the wind noise that bad.

If we don't take all the problems and recalls the Maverick has into play, assuming it worked the way it was advertised to, and didn't have all the dash rattles and poorly adhered windshields causing clicking sounds and faulty electronics, these are the things I didn't like about mine.

1) The infotainment screen was a 2002-2005 lexus/toyota quality screen. Super unresponsive, boring, old school, no wireless apple carplay, glitchy, low resolution.

2) Speakers are useless for anything other than talk radio/podcasts. AM/FM reception was horrible also and very staticky even in a big city.

3) Backup camera is 2008 webcam quality. (Frequently lagged and froze while reversing.)

4) Yes, interior plastics are super weak. Accidentally brushing my fingernail against the glove box scratched it, a piece of salt on the dash from when I was eating lunch in my car one day scratched the dash when I slid a piece of paper over it.

5) Most importantly, it's the weakest paint I've ever seen on a Vehicle. I had the same amount of rock chips on the front bumper and hood in the first 2 weeks and 250 miles than my previous car did in 20 years and 250k miles. The steel wheel paint is almost water soluble too. I used a non-scratch scouring pad and mild carwash soap to remove some melted candy from one of the wheels (don't know how it got there), and it took the paint off as I scrubbed (it wasn't just the melted candy, anywhere I scrubbed on the wheel, there would be silver powder on my blue scouring pad.)

6) The sunglasses holder can probably only be opened and closed 40 times before it breaks.

I would rather have a truck without any "fancy" electronics and have Ford put that extra money into better quality paint instead.

The touch screen is kind of aimed towards the floorboards, and exterior mirrors are kind of low so I have to physically move my head down to see out of them even when adjusted. Other than that it is a good truck and the interior noise is actually really good for a 22k truck
I noticed the screen is pointed down, I assumed it was for glare from the outside.

All my complaints are pretty minor.

- annoying that i have to disable the auto stop-start every time i drive the truck
- i actually like the interior a lot, but the plastic does scuff easily. i have scuffs from the seatbelt flying off and hitting the side when i unbuckle
- i like warning beeps for oncoming cars when i'm backing up, but wish it would also beep if the truck was getting too close to a stationary object
- cubby next to the infotainment screen is beyond useless
- rear seat split would be nice

Still very happy with the truck though.

My Ecoboost is expected to arrive any day now. While I twiddle my thumbs waiting for the call, tell me what you don't like about the Maverick so I can taper my expectations.

So far, I've heard of:
  • Bad speaker/sound system.
  • Noisy interior cabin
  • Easily scratched interior
I suppose us Lariat Lux owners get to lift our nose in snootiness a bit since we have push-button start and the "upgraded" sound system (which also includes the upgraded infotainment system).

I only have ~1,500 miles on my EB Lariat Lux, but a good chunk of that mileage was spent immediately driving it from the dealership in Cleveland to visit my brother in the Chicago area and back again (about 79mph on the turnpike through 3 states). The cabin didn't seem noisy to me at all; it wasn't quiet, but I definitely wouldn't categorize it as noisy. I'm coming from a 2013 Ford C-Max SEL Hybrid which I thought was a considerably quiet vehicle.

I didn't think it would be a big deal to me when I placed my order, but my biggest glaring dislike so far is the 8" screen and the COMPLETELY USELESS cubby next to it. I don't need/want the ultra-massive 14" screens they are slapping in some vehicles now, but using Android Auto in split screen mode (navigation on the main tile and music/notifications on the secondary tile) really feels like the screen needs to be in the 10" range to me.

Also, I like the idea of the door panel storage for the water bottles and what-not, but it just doesn't seem to work well for me.

Seems somewhat polarizing on here, but I really like the interior door handles; only detraction for me is that it places the window controls further forward than I'd like.

I think it is important to remember that if you are getting an XL or XLT, you are buying the value proposition versions of the vehicle. A heavily-optioned EB XLT still comes in near the $32k mark which is well under the national average cost for a new vehicle. I think so long as it runs well for a long time (with proper maintenance, of course) it would be unreasonable to expect more out of any vehicle than exactly that.

While I share many of the negative observations (and really liking the truck), for me, the Maverick delivers more advantages than negatives.

And yes, perhaps future compact trucks from other manufacturers will deliver a better product at a more affordable price, but for right now, the Maverick IMO is worth owning now.

Buy, drive, use and enjoy it now, cause who knows how long the next “great” compact truck hits the marketplace at Maverick’s price point.

My bet is the Maverick is and will remain a major contender in the compact truck marketplace; idiosyncrasies and all.

Cheers!

The only thing I don't like is the blind spot caused by the low mounted rearview mirror, other than that nothing & I have had no issues in 15 months of ownership.
If you’re referring to the ability to see out the BACK:
I removed the rear headrests. I have yet to have a passenger in back. It seems much better.

Does anyone know if you spring for the Alto Blue, Pepper Red or Cyber Orange if the paint job is better/higher quality?
No. The paint is thin. I expected since I paid for the alto blue that it would be better. The first chip was by a grocery bag, should not have been able to chip the paint in my opinion.
