It took 40 days in the shop and the intervention of Ford Customer Experience- Trucks to locate the wiring harness to the positive post of the 12 volt under the hood battery. Back on the road with everything seeming to work as it should. CALL Ford for help- 800-392-3673

I have called and we'll see what happens. Rear passenger window also failed to close and some alert about safety feature lamp failure. My 2019 Prius by comparision has had a set of tires and oil changes in 109,000 miles. Maverick has 6800 miles and multiple failures, I drive like an old man, as I am at 53.

A couple of weeks ago I first experienced the issue of my hybrid maverick going completely dead when turning the truck off. I was able to wiggle the cable and eventually got it to power back on.

I immediately contacted my local dealership and scheduled the next available appointment (2weeks out). The issue would continue to occur every couple days, but I was always able to get it back on. I finally got into the dealership, made them aware of the issue and what I've read here on the forum (mentioning replacing the wiring harness, which they didn't listen to). They have my truck for a couple days and the service tech said he was aware of the issue and that the solution was to sodder the wire, because they come crimped from the factory and it can wiggle loose. I was happy to have my truck back and to have this issue behind me... for 5 days.

This morning my truck was dead again. Per usual I wiggled the wire, but it took longer to come back on than it typically did. Was able to carefully drive to work this morning, where it died again. So obviously, not fixed, I've contacted the dealership again and I'm waiting to hear back.

Is the current thinking that just replacing the wiring harness resolves the issue?
They need to replace the harness. I heard that soddering can cause more issues then it fixes. I read one person that the dealer soddered the cable and it came off on the highway at 70 and he lost all power...

Got my Maverick back with fix. Some of you Edward Mechanical Hands might decipher this and determine if this is the same fix, or different in any way?

minor note: I never told them I saw any CEL, dunno why they wrote that.

Looks like they just replaced the lug on the cable end. Not sure if 1617 is the front cable end or the harder to access one behind it

Another possible one here. Pulled into the driveway after a 120 mile trip, hit the stop button and everything went completely dead. No dash lights, no locks - nothing. Will start and run with jump pack, but dies immediately when the start/stop button is pressed. No issues with MPG or Deep Sleep warnings. Taking it to the dealer when they open today.

4700 miles, Lariat Lux Hybrid, 08/2021 build.
Just got an update yesterday. The service team worked with Ford engineering to try the lug replacement fix to 1617E, however it did not resolve the issue. Have to wait for a harness now. The harness is backordered again with NO estimated availability date.

After discussions with Ford Customer Service - it's been escalated to "emergency", and they're providing reimbursement for a rental (up to $2000) as no loaner is available. It's not great, but it's better than nothing. I will say that their Customer Service team was genuinely helpful - which is really nice to see.

@Ford Motor Company

I understand about supply chain shortages. But this situation sucks. I've been buying all of my vehicles new or a couple of years old for the last 20 years, and I've never had another experience like this. I'm not under the impression that it would have been different if I bought from another manufacturer - but I didn't, so this is going to have a lasting impact on my impression of Fords.

I'm seeing some responses to this issue that it's what you get for buying a first model year, but either the part was designed to use a type of connection that was prone to failure, or no QA was performed to check that the wiring harness connections were done to spec.

So far, 10 days in the shop and there's no estimated time of return.

Sorry to hear your situation, but thanks for the details. Sounds like FORD may be close to realizing that they do have problems.

I know it's been said before but I hope everyone that has this issue is reporting it to the nhtsa.

[Dumb Questions Alert! Avert Eyes if sensitive…]

With both Maverick Hybrid and Bronco Sport built in Hermosillo, are the BS Hybrids afflicted with the same lug/harness/dead battery issues?

If not, why not?

I’ll hang up and listen to the Collective’s replies…

Well, that was a quick and definitive response, proving (again) the downside of assuming.

My apologies to The Collective for the dumbass question…

Good call, just submitted my issue to NHTSA.
What is the most direct link to submit a report ? I get confused by their website.

My guess is that Ford is well aware of the problem--but they aren't issuing a recall or TSB because they don't have enough harnesses to fix all of the trucks, and they don't want to pay for rentals while we wait for repairs. So, they are just going to silently sit on it, either until they can get enough harnesses, or until the NHTSA forces them to do something. Time will tell...

I'm just hoping that the one time I got the dreaded messages about my truck needing to hibernate was an unrelated fluke--because that's about all I can do. Doesn't inspire much confidence in Ford.
