Has anyone positively confirmed that the wire is actually aluminum or just silvered from tinning for the soldering? It doesn't really make sense for an OEM to use aluminum wire especially for a high ampacity one. Al wire is more for scamming people trying to buy the cheapest wire based on gauge alone.

Darnon, you have good point on believeing it could be tinned wire.

Someone else, who did their own repair said it was aluminum.(member on here who gets some good credit, sorry cant remember name).

Heres why i believe its aluminum: it is very,very difficult process to weld/solder aluminum, hence why we are here today talking about it.

The size of the Conductor, i believe its at least 2/0 gauge. Battery cable is usually 4 gauge in the past, and newer high load is 2 or 1 gauge. I believe the formula is double the size of the Conductor to go from copper to aluminum for same load.

Aluminum is a very decent conductor of electricity and very competitively priced compared to other metals. Aluminum is still used in residential housing service feeds which uses large diameter cables(like up to 3/0 gauge).

Aluminum can be very safe when some basic rules are followed. It just behaves differently from other metals. And most of the problems occur when you join dissimilar metals(i.e. copper and aluminum). Add heat and flow some electrons through them, add environmental factors, and you can get yourself in trouble real quick.

Galvanic corrosion can destroy the ajoining metals, depending on environmental could occur quite quickly.

No issues yet, functioning correctly. Still makes me nervous long term that my fix will come loose/corrode

Mis, i have a different repair and if it works it should be an easier way to repair. It will follow ALL the rules of electrical connection, that i have been ranting and raving about. Trying to fit it in, maybe this weekend? Stay tuned, if successful, it will be worth doing.

I will have a complete write up w/pics and minimum parts list.

Saves $2 and 2oz per foot of wire. Probably all the reason they needed.
