They're using that as a stop gap solution. The true issue is the poor machining of their bearings and the poor oiling of the engine. Thicker oil can help slow damage, but it cant stop it completely, hence why some engines are still failing on 0w-40. Just like Toyota's 3.4LTTv6, it's a poor design from the outset.

It just so happens both engines use variable displacement oil pumps instead of the older constant pumps. Surely that has nothing to do with it, right GM engineers?

Yes, for EB engines, use ford spec oil wSS-m2c971-a1. It’s 5W-30 stuff.

I heard there working on LIFETIME OIL and removing the dip stick, just change the filter every 30k.
