Motorcraft 5w30 at dealerships is often a great bargain, as I've learned on this forum. Somebody showed a receipt. It was $3.30 a quart bottle. Walmart can't beat that. Strange how almost everything at Ford dealerships costs too much except a bottle of 5w30. I remember getting ATF fluid from them a couple of years ago and I think it too was reasonably cheap. The recommended oil per Ford is XO5W305Q3SP:
Is that any different than XO5W305QSP? This one has no 3 before the SP at the end:
There is a significant difference in price for the 5q jug and in availability for the 1q bottle.
The only thing you really need to know about motor oil for the Ecoboost is that the oil, whatever brand you pick up from Walmart in 5-qt jugs, or Autozone, etc., or at the dealership, has WSS-M2C963-A1 or WSS-M2C961-A1 printed on the back of the container. That is literally all you need to see. (If you live where it can get very cold in the winter, like below -15F, you should get the WSS-M2C963-A1.)
(WSS-M2C962-A1 for the Hybrid Mav.)
Picking the right WSS- oil, any brand, makes Ford honor their engine warranty in case it comes to an argument. Document with receipts and a pic of the container. ......... In pure engineering reality, any oil meeting dexos1 or any German spec qualifies very well for use in an Ecoboost or hybrid.
Ford warranty police may be only concerned about seeing the right WSS- type oil though, be warned.
