After arriving home today and switching my truck off, it lost all power. I called AutoNation Ford Wolfchase immediately to get the warranty repairs initiated. As I will be needing a tow, I asked how to arrange that and they stated that towing is not included in my factory warranty. I'm not sure why they would have said that but hopefully this will be corrected sooner than later.

I have a Noco jump starter and it didn't work which sucked. No clue why. But yeah, I'm driving around with jumper cables and one of those for the next few years. Winters coming to Chicago soon enough, if I get stranded again with this I'm going to be very mad.

Did you try under the hood or battery under seat?

I have the Noco and it has been a life saver.

Under the hood on the jump start posts.

I would think i would be more concerned with the repair, then if it was to break down.

The repair is a very critical connection point. The battery cable is Aluminum, the only type of lug to be used is Copper Clad(DO NOT use straight copper, remember all the houses in the 70/80s that were using aluminum wiring). Using CU on AL will cause all types of errors down the road. The connection can get very hot if CU is used on an Al wire.

Then theres good old galvanic corrosion, when dissimilar metal are connected and the environment comes attacking, not good again.

Soldering to aluminum is almost impossible, specialized flux, solder, and controlled conditions are required.

Then theres battery cable replacement, a good portion of the truck has to be dismantled for replacement, then theres the parts shortage to contend with.

So probably the best solution is to PROPERLY crimp a copper/clad eyelet, in a very tight space, dont forget the heat shrink. Absolutely do not add any bolts, connection points, metals beside coper clad, or you have worsened the problem.

This needs to be fixed correctlly the first time. Over time is when you will see incorrect repairs that were improperly repaired fail. The 12v battery powers the processors, that will only work correctly with clean, STABLE voltage.

Your LONGTERM RELIABILITY depends on the correct repair procedure and materials.

I’m pretty sure everyone gets roadside assistance and a warranty tow with this new Ford vehicle. Call the Ford roadside assistance number directly? They will subcontract local towers. Mine was a little sketchy lol

If your in the Atlanta, Georgia area, I have great news!

Here is the dealer that you want to go to:

https://www.howellford.com/

They fixed the faulty connector in approx. 3 to 4 hours while we waited. While other dealers made excuses, did not return phone calls, were generally rude and simply did not care, Billy Howell Ford was impressive and got the job done.

Their service department and service director are first class, 5 star, all the way!

Please see the attached pic showing repair. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to see exactly where this connection is in the engine compartment. I Will try and update later where the exact location is.

This fix makes the most sense since it has not been confirmed if harnesses are still being manufactured the same way with the same problem.

Is that a grounding wire? I thought the problem child was the positive lug.

Yep. It's like anyone else offering roadside assistance including AAA - they contract your call out to whatever towing companies are available in your area. Being towing companies, some of them are quite sketch. AAA once sent a guy out who was very clear with us how he'd rather be at the strip club we passed... Some of them aren't that creepy.

Your dealer is clueless. Roadside assistance is included from Ford for 5 years/60,000 mi, whichever comes first. Can be arranged through the FordPass app if you have it. Otherwise, go to this page where you can learn more or call 800-241-3673. I've even had dealers include this number on their branded keychain tags.

My Mav was delivered to the dealership's service department today. They immediately authorized a rental for five days and will look to Ford for guidance (approval) to repair the connection or replace the cable and harness. I prefer the repair if they are just going to replace it with the same thing. They don't have a time range for the work at this point but said it could be up to four weeks based on the course of action. FMC is corresponding with me through DM on this site. I'm hoping they will authorize additional rental time if needed as it is the right thing to do. I have reported the issue to the NHTSA and purchased a Type S 800MAH Portable Jump Starter from Costco ($59). Two significant issues so far are: 1.) Why would the dealership initially tell me that the tow would not be covered? - this is not on Ford. And, 2.) There is obviously a large enough affected sample that Ford should act preemptively instead of waiting for customers to be stranded - just good customer service.

I still like the truck and I'm content with the purchase.

Add me, too! Happened 4 days ago. Went out to go shopping and it was dead. No deep sleep mode warning, no check engine light, etc. Put MM on 12 volt under seat and it read 12.3 volts. MM read 3.3 volts on charging posts. Ordered jump starter from Walmart and placed it on charging posts this AM. Truck immediately turned on. No point in driving it around, so I kept it on for 5 min then turned ignition off. Waited a few min and tried to turn it on. Dead again. I'll be calling the dealer ASAP. My question is, why isn't Ford doing a recall concerning this faulty wire harness, just to do a wiggle test, if nothing else?
What was your build date?
