Never had a problem with mine. I do not have one. I am pushing 82 years of age, but thankfully I find the tailgate light in weight and to me this is a want, not a need. Now the tailgate on my 2005 Ram is another story. Both shoulders required! ;) :teehee:

It was a must have on my 2004 Ram! I also have this problem with the TA on my Mav but my workaround has been to move the cable before I close the tailgate.

I'm pretty sure that's the one I have.

I'm curious if my tailgate assist bracket would work for the RAM. They tend to use similar dimensions, but if it needs some fine tuning let me know and I can adjust them.

I installed a tailgate assist strut, following the instruction video - but the tailgate cable binds on opening and closing. Did I do something wrong? I considered just removing the cable, but wanted to see if there are others who've had and overcome this issue?

Not sure about the cable binding on mine, but I've purchased 2 tailgate strut kits from Amazon from different vendors and on both of them the strut ball mount on the body side detached from the mounting plate.

Got the cheap one and have not had it bind. I did however need the hook that was removed to replace with the hydraulic arm. I made do though. The tailgate hydraulic arm/strut does feel a little cheap, but so far so good.

January 2024. I bought a no-name brand of Amazon for $19.99 still going strong. Here's a current picture. One of the best $20 I spent on this truck.

Rick I replaced the driver side tie down with one made from one of our members.

I just checked mine again and it is working fine now. To me it looks like the cable connection needs to be inside of the strut rod, that is closer to the bed.

This will resolve the problem, a seller off Etsy is where I bought mine comes in two pack.

I had the same issue with mine after I first installed it. I had to manually manipulate the cable a little for it to get past the strut. After several times of it opening, I no longer have issues. May just be a wear and tear type thing. Who knows. Hope that helps.

That there is the rotating of the bracket I was talking about. If you don't really crank down on that bolt, the bracket rotates, and the cable can then move behind the strut when you close the gate. The cable catch, or whatever you call it, install there clearly is one fix to the issue.
