So two things:

1. I'm a little concerned that the gas strut doesn't actually fit as intended. As you can see in the video it's hitting the bolt that secures the rear light. It has only been a few days but you can already see metal shavings on both parts. Has anyone else seen this?

2) These hooks are just okay. As you can see in the photo you have to use a washer because the bolt slips through. I think I'll find a more secure way to get them attached. That said, they to say in place. They naturally fall in a way that they won't hit the strut.

I just noticed today that the strut has started to rust. I called DeeZee today. Sent them photos and videos and they're looking into it. I'll update as soon as I know more.

I saw another photo where the body of the shock is at the bottom. Is it possible you have it on upside down?

The rep from DeeZee commented on this. She said they've been discussing that the Ford accessories photo is incorrect.

Here are the official installation instructions.

You wouldn't want it as pictured on the Ford website because water could seep into the shock.

Thanks for the reply. This is a real bummer. Hope there is some kind of solution, but I dont see what that could be.

I will just find a thinner head screw for the tail light🤔 DeeZee should provide one though!

I would think it would be near fully collapsed at closure anyways so the body of the shock would still be near that screw head.
You are correct, and I think it actually would be worse as the other end is thicker.

Could be a solution. Sourcing that would obviously take time.

Interested to see which way is actually going to work install wise. but the easy solution does appear to be a flatter head screw.

Too many to list.

Use a new flush fit bolt to hold the rear tail light in or simply grind the bolt head down a little. No reason to reinvent the wheel.

Can you just install a spacer/washer behind the upper strut mount to space it out just slightly?
Looks like OP has some scratching on the tailgate too - might not want to move it any farther out
