I keep seeing ads for tailgate assist. Is this recommended for my new Maverick?

Congrats on the new Mav! Tailgate assists are a very common first mod that many seem to do. The Mav tailgate isn't as heavy as some of the full size trucks but the slow open is nice and these are relatively inexpensive as add ons seem to go.

The DeeZee one I can attest to. I've had it on my truck for two and a half years and I have not noticed any degradation in performance. In fact, the other day when it was really cold, I could have done a lap around my truck in the amount of time it took to come down.

It's one of the first things I installed when I got my '25 and it has been great.

Nice easy addition. don't have to worry about tailgate slipping out of hands when wet or hands full of stuff when needing to open.

From all the ones I have seen from various resellers, They are all about the same quality and more than likely from the same China mfg's. SO don't pay more for a name brand.

I originally added the tailgate assist to my Dodge Ram because it had a very heavy tailgate and my daughters would let it slam down every time!! I liked it so much that it was a must have for my Maverick!

I recommend not buying things based off of ads. It just reinforces them.

No, TA is not recommended. Installation issues, malfunctions and replacement tie-down required for very little gain in function. The shock will also not last and will need replacement. Unless you really need it due to advanced age or disability, I'd skip it. Look around and you will see all kinds of posts reporting issues. No TA here and never attempted. $0 cost incurred. Judge for yourself...

Sandi.
Me personally YES. Proof is in the video.
Tailgate with soft open damper strut.👍🏻👍🏻

It is a great upgrade convenience for around $30
It's especially convenient if your hands are full and you don't want to set anything down you can use one finger to pull the latch and let it go, as my video shows. ☝🏻☝🏻
It eliminates any chance of the tailgate slipping from your hand and slamming down and bouncing.
I think it's worth the $30 and a little time.
I have a 2023 and installed it the first month I owned the truck.

Tailgate Slamming and bouncing Without the damper strut.😯

I had one off Amazon that broke the very poorly welded nipple off after just under 2 years. I replaced it with a DeeZee unit from the dealer that is a lot better welded. If you get the one from the dealer, it has a 2 year warranty for $20 more than the same price off Amazon. One downside of the DeeZee shock is that it opens very, very slowly in below-freezing temperatures.
