Hybrid Acceleration

I have had a Toyota Avalon Hybrid and now a Lexus ES300h (Hybrid). Both have a 2.5l engine and 205 HP. The Maverick has a 2.5l and 191 HP.

With my both of my Toyota Avalon and now Lexus ES300 in Economy Mode, I was doing 105 MPH on the interstate last week. I stomped on it the other day and the tires squealed. If you want to pass and you step on it you are going 80MPH before you look down and say damn, I better slow down.

I hope and pray the Maverick will be as responsive and I don't see why it won't be.

As for MPG, I'm using Ethanol Free 89 Octane and current average as of fuel up yesterday is 44.1. You can see my live Fuelly App in my signature below.

I was behind one at a stop light today and they stepped on it when the light turned green. It was much faster from a dead stop than I thought it would be.

I see a lot of people posting sort of angrily that they don’t have a build date. I can understand if they NEED the Mav sooner than later due to a crummy current vehicle but I’m not in that group. I would just like to see mine by March, before the heat kicks in again in Dallas. The AC on my daily is failing me big time. More time to save up cash!

I had a 2004 Escape with the 1.6l EB. Massive 173 herspers and 184 ratchet power.....It was anything but sluggish. @3600lbs it is right in line with the Mav. It was not speed demon by any means. That being said, I never wanted more out of it in town or the interstate. It was a family car. It passed easily and got up to speed well. Not one time did I complain about the power.

Man, that's great to know! I really hope the Mav hybrid performs similarly!

Might be about right. I think with Toyota hybrids they are limited on the speed you are driving. I think same for insight. The insight when the battery is charged you are rolling around town up to 35 mph on the battery.

I also think that for us to get peak gas milage with the hybrid we need to break them in for quite sometime.

Cause I remember my family member complaining about the Insight getting "mediocre" 48 mpg at purchase. Now he is boasting about "fantastic" 56 mpg... Those hybrid people I hope I won't turn into one of them with the hybrid Mav

Me neither. Working from home since last March, and I fill up my V6 Camry once a month. When it came time to renew my insurance, the bill went down significantly because I guesstimated that I drove 10 miles per day and that was being generous. With this Maverick, I think I'll be filling up every other month.

I have been wondering when we will hear the 0-60 time on the Hybrid.
We should get some good info from Motorweek.
The Sport Mode will utilize both engines and should have plenty of acceleration.
I am driving a VW 2.0 Turbo AWD and am going Maverick Hybrid FWD!

been listed at 8.5 sec 0-60. not fast, but quick enough to be functional. The early torque will make it feel fun. Now the Jeep wrangler plugin I ordered is 0-60 in 6 sec or less (some have gotten 5.5). Yes, I ordered two new first year hybrids. Never bought a new vehicle in my life. but used cars high, new cars havent gotten price adjusted yet. so make $ sense

Yup. The electric motor will be instant torque

I have had a 2006 and now a 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and neither were limited on speed. I was the only limiting factor. Both also had V6 engines which was what I wanted. I specifically sought out a newer one before they went to the 4cyl. I am not your best source for fuel mpg because i actually desired the speed and acceleration. My current hybrid is at 29mpg and I have never reset it. That is 2 years worth. The acceleration is fantastic.

I recently towed a boat 1150 miles with my Ford C max with the 2.0 hybrid. Couple of times I had to force it to slow down, was doing 80 just running with traffic. Teriffic acceleration when passing. Have had it for 6 yrs and over 160k miles now and averaged 41.9 mpg since new. After towing the boat and then driving another 6900 miles to the west coast and back to VA I averaged 40.9 mpg for the entire trip. I have Mav Lariat First Edition ordered as a replacement.

This is one of my biggest concerns about the Mav hybrid. The Rav4 hybrid is awd with 214 hp. When I test drove it, I was really impressed with the hp. I doubt the Mav will feel like the rav 4 hybrid, as there's a 23 hp difference. Now, if it does, it would be awesome. I don't know what the escape hybrid feels like, but there are none around here to test drive. My concern is that the Mav hybrid only has 191 hp, and the escape hybrid has 200 hp. The reviews of the hp on the escape hybrid are not that great. Many basically say it's sluggish. Anyway, I'm hoping for the best. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I don't think they are quoting the correct torque number on the mav as it's just the torque figure of gas engine.

Rav4 Le FWD hybrid - 214hp - 3690 lbs
Escape Hybrid - 200hp - 3566 lbs
Hybrid Crv - 212hp - 3708 lbs
Hybrid mav - 191hp - 3674 lbs

That is a concern when looking at these numbers maveric is heavy and underpowered compared to all those. It's also hard to get torque numbers for combined electric and gas power trains. Though when just looking at gas power plants maveric also has the lowest torque


So the hybrid potentially might be very sluggish merging and passing. I guess time will tell along with any test drives

That’s not terrible. I know a guy I work with that drives an F150, he’s filling up once every 6 days. I’d go crazy with that.

lucky for me I’m 7 miles round trip from work and go in maybe 4 times per week with a bunch of weeks at 0 due to traveling.

I’m even worse than that. Ready ? … I fill up every 3 days. 2020 4x4 Ram 1500 rebel 5.7L I drive ALOT. This is going to be amazing when I get my hybrid the amount of $ I will save at the pump. Currently getting 11mpg and a hefty car note along with it

That's not too bad - you can always use the Sport mode!
That Wrangler is fast at 6 sec or less.
I will have to make the adjustment from my VW Tiguan AWD Turbo. You should keep that VW GLI.
