Just did this in "easy" mode on my FX4. You have to disable the SDM-ABS as mentioned in the OP or you'll get a "drive-mode can't be selected" error even with the modes showing up. Sport mode did work during the test drive. Thanks for the work on this, OP.

A pretty old post, but that tells me EXACTLY what I needed to do. In my first dabble in ForScan, I enabled Sport mode, but failed to disable SDM ABS also - the result is as you noted, the mode appears but states that it is not available. I'll get at it tomorrow morning before my long trek to the company picnic.

Ok, followed the instructions noted by JUrban earlier up the thread, and I now have a fully functional sport mode. Not sure why they deleted it in the FX4 in the first place. I like it for the engine braking alone - very helpful around here where there are lots of hills and twisty roads.

@Maverick2022XL have you noticed ECO mode not performing as good now? I couldn't figure out if it was the cold weather/ gas mixture change, Fords Oil change where they may had done something, or what. Yesterday I noticed on the way home from work that ECO mode isn't keeping me at 1500 RPMs anymore and Im coasting now at around 2000 constantly unless going Im going 60 or below. I was averaging 29.5-32 MPG on hwy (200 miles round trip everyday for wrk) and now Im struggling to get above 25 MPG. Did a quick search and found this thread but doesnt look like he adding ECO and Sport modes. https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/transmission-acting-different.24228/#post-454813
My 2023 XLT Tremor had similar symptoms of coasting at a higher RPM, and during acceleration the transmission stays in lower gears for longer before it shifts up to the next gear. I reset the PCM adaptive learning last night and it’s now coasting at a lower RPM level and is shifting up to the next gear a bit earlier, which I suspect will help with MPG. It now feels closer to how my ‘22 XLT AWD (no FX4, no 4K) used to drive. Still testing it out but so far so good. In my case I’ve had that issue since I bought the truck at ~50 miles on the odometer. I’m at ~7k now.

By the way, the link you referenced seems to have the opposite issue where it shifts up too soon, leaving the truck underpowered.

I’m aware your message is from 2 years ago, I’m not sure if you still have this issue.

I wanna try Method 2 on a 2025 XL Non FX4. It has the sync 4 infotainment and they made me buy copilot 360 with my tow package. This is how i will get them back.....(forcing copilot on me) By unlocking two more drive modes! However this is my first Foray into Forscan. Ive watched a lot of tutorials i'm pretty adept at learning software and hardware.
Whats the chance I brick a brand new truck with old coding?
Should i wait for a Veteran to successfully do a 2025?
  • The 2025 changes a that
  • Selectable Drive Modes — Off-Road Mode replaces Sand Mode and Mud/Ruts Mode

yeah, as an old IT veteran, i would not be attempting to plug old sync3 code into a sync4 system, especially if you're new to doing this.

if you do go about it, be sure to make a backup of your original code before tinkering, even if it is vetted code.

I tried doing it In EZ mode on a 2025 XL and i unlocked Lobo mode. So the Mode numbers in SDM in 2025 sync 4 are different. Im gonna keep looking for the offroad mode. I reverted it because i wasn't sure if the XL rear diff and transmission would not like Lobo software. Lobo has 7spd not 8. Any Opinions?

I see no reason to pay for the FX4 package if all I get over the tow package is front hooks, cheap skidplates and extra driving modes and hill descent.
FX4 also have heavy-duty coolant system, transmission cooler, lower differential gearing and a bigger screen in the dash...
