My battery charger/tender works on the jump/charge posts under the hood, on the driver's side. I connect it if I'm not going to be driving the truck for several days or longer.

The BMS should be reset after a charge, too.
This is what I followed, they had a direct connection to the positive post and a ground behind the BMS sensor, and his tracked SOC while charging correctly. I'm on a frame ground in the battery compartment.

The BMS will report an error if the charger is connected wrong, it won't have seen charge flow into the battery. I had mine connected wrong initially and had to reset BMS after each charge. After correcting this, It doesn't have the "Out of Range" error after charging.

Not that they have told me. Would that make the battery drain or go bad?
It could prevent it from charging properly, dealer told me it was common for them to go bad on the Maverick Hybrids. Others here have mentioned it as well.

Turns out it is relatively easy to make a charging harness for use under the rear seat. There is an unused stud on the positive battery terminal block, and a convenient ground on a nearby module. You can get a standard fused cable with SAE plug, tape it with loom tape to give it the factory look (an in-line fuse is essential for safety). Run it from the battery compartment to either the area behind the seat, or another convenient location for a trickle charger. Can also connect a window mounted solar charger to the SAE plug if intending to leave the vehicle outside.

The only other place to get access to a continuous battery connection is under the hood. I did consider running a harness from the connection points under the hood to a weatherproof connector mounted in the plastic fender badge. There is plenty of space behind the badge and a clear run to the power points. It would be like plugging in an EV, and easy to restore by replacing the badge, but a bit too visible for me.

So far the charger works well when the battery is low, but does get into a repeating clickity-clack routine once fully charged. Not sure what is triggering that, but it means a timer is needed to ensure it doesn’t charge continuously. Maybe a couple of hours once a week.

Ford Roadside assistance...use it before you lose it. Nothing is more upsetting than a product you sell, arrive on a flatbed tow truck, park in front of the showroom with customers you might hope to sell another flatbed tow experience. Squeaky wheel gets oiled.
I love my XLT hybrid, but I depend on my Toyota hybrid.
