Wait ... You're supposed to change oil 🤔?
I'm not kidding, I knew someone who owned it was either a Honda, or Toyota, and blew the engine after 8 years because they never changed the oil. That's one of several reasons I'll probably never own another Toyota/Honda, their owners are as clueless as it gets, and don't maintain things to save their lives. Which leads to a miserable ownership experience for anyone who buys that car from them.

They need to cycle it through heat range. I promise you a car that makes a lot of short trips of 5 miles a day will have sludge by 2000 miles.
I don't know about that, our cars are generally driven shorter distances, a few miles or less, and it's never been an issue.

This is not correct. Drums of oil sitting around will sweat internally and ruin the oil. We dump them all the time at my job due to moisture contamination.
Can not sweat as you like to say if it is sealed. It can if unsealed which is what I said.

You can only be referring to opened, partially used drums, maybe even continuously or frequently opened drums. That's probably what you meant.

agreed. most likely rust perforation, but could be imperfectly sealed lid.

there was a guy some months back swearing up and down that oil sweat through his oil pan. it was obviously a leak, even though he did not know the source.

Nothing a little JB weld won't fix :ROFLMAO:
I think that's a weekly occurance on "customer states" videos. Someone either uses JB Weld, spray foam, or tape. Or... they actually try to weld the pan (with oil still in it and attached to the vehicle btw).

Brand new sealed from manufacturer sitting outside. We have drums inside and outside. The only ones that have issues are the ones outside. We pull a sample and run it though our lab. If it comes back contaminated we dump it.

Porsche designs cars and engines to be raced, literally. Take you new Porsche to a trackway or their track in LA, ATL or Birmingham and thrash away. Use their car for 1.5-6 hours and thrash on their track, no problem. Launch control all day every day, again no problem. They say 10K or every year. Porsche knows and backs up their cars with a warranty. Blackstone offers nothing to back up their claim and no warranty. Stick to manufacturer recommendations if you want a warranty.

"Look, I can crap in a box and put a warranty on it, but wouldn't you rather have a quality part?"

Moisture forms during heat cycles and short trips don't allow it to fully dissipate so whatever you're doing, keep doing. Quality oil, arid conditions help but the fact that you're moving internal parts more often prior to full lubrication (start up) and the heat cycles is a simple case of physics, your oil will have more contamination than oil in a vehicle with same miles and fewer start ups.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/motor-oil-age-doesnt-matter-as-much-as-mileage-study

Basically they took oil sitting on a shelf for 14 years and it was fine, they then took cars with oil sitting many years and again no problems. After many tests they concluded it was mileage not age of oil, 6-12 months oil change is a waste of money.
You can go much further with a Hybrid than a EcoBoost, no turbo. Either way if you intend to keep your vehicle a long time I think it would be foolish not to change your oil at least once a year. Its definitely mileage over time, I only drive 5k in my FX4 a year and coming up on 2 years on May 28 and have 9k now, I did my first oil change at 3k because it was free than 8k I will do my next one at 12k/13k. I don't think a few hundred bucks a year is unreasonable to keep my warranty and my truck running good. My last visit to the dealer they had 2 EcoBoost's 2.0 with low mileage 60/70k that needed engines and 2 waiting outside in the lot waiting parts one of the technicians said.

Winter Storage

It is interesting these guys say to change your oil prior to storage.
There's a reason for that. Oil has accumulated some acids and moisture from the combustion process. I always change the oil in my bikes prior to putting them away for the winter.

I've used the same reasoning as Timothyd for changing my oil before storage.
