Mine would be something that fits in my garage - so- no longer than the Maverick.
Extended cab, so my 50# dog can still fit in it.
Bigger bed than the Maverick (not really necessary if I get the full cab like the Maverick has)
MORE Ground clearance
A 4000# towing capacity
4 Wheel Drive or good AWD (I think the Mavericks AWD Off Road mode qualifies)
40 mpg so maybe a hybrid
As capable an off roader as possible

I had a Toyota 4-cylinder pick-up for 25 years, slow as a turtle (which never bothered me) but very off road capable.
That short wheelbase and high ground clearance made for quite a capable off roader.
Once creeped over a log that must have been 16" Ø blocking access to a lake.
Ride was too rough though -your head would hit the roof if you drove 25mph in a field.
Something like 28 mpg on the highway.
If it wasn't rusted to death, I'd probably still have it.

Main point is the Maverick is the closest thing, just falls short on the off-road capabilities.
Hell, I saw a video on the "Lincoln Highway" on the Tube last night, amazing what those model T's did on that road before it was really a road.

Just hoping Ford hears me and there are others out there with the same values.
It just seems like they have the technology but don't think there is a market for small, capable, efficient pick-ups.

Can we make them change their mind?

While this is my ultimate truck, I’d rather drive my Mav.😉

What's your Ultimate Pick Up ?

It would have been Christie Brinkley.😘
But she's too old now😕

And I don't have enough money
Have you seen her lately? She’s still smoking.

Mine is a 2025 AWD Lariat Hybrid with the 4K tow.

If there is one thing I’ve learned on these boards is Maverick owners especially are never satisfied and will always find something to complain about.

2-Door BEV Slate or a 4-door BEV Telo (which is even shorter). Or, if they ever release it, a BEV Rivian R2. Or the small Toyota truck that a Toyota VP was talking about today (in an interview). Or the rumored small Kia truck. Or the skunk works Ford BEV small truck.

Because like 90% of people who own Mavericks, it's just a car with a bed for me. Never goes off road. Never tows. Sometimes carries a few bales of chopped straw, or a dozen bags of lime. Back doors and back seats never get used.

The Maverick is two doors and two feet too big for me. It's a "meh" placeholder until something better comes down the pike. Has to be a BEV.

After 2 years of surf fishing the beaches of Jersey, I have seen what can handle the sand and what gets stuck... I'd have to say an old, jacked up Ram 2500 would be my fun/toy truck if I ever had the money. I don't take my fwd hybrid on the sand(obviously) but after seeing jeeps and f-150s get stuck... those 2500's with big f off wheels aren't getting stuck.

Since the fun title has been changed.
I'll be somewhat serious.
The Maverick is perfect as is.
Basically an SUV with an open bed.
You want something for rock climbing and for more serious off-road get a Ranger.
You want to tow RV's and boats get an F150, 250 or 350.
Ford if you're listening. You have multiple other options for people to purchase.
Leave the the Maverick as is.

Take care and smell the lilacs.

But holding up well compared to a car of the 70s.
You take a 71-year-old car that still looks as good as Christie Brinkley and you know both have had major body work over the years.
The way Christie Brinkley looks now, I would have to classify as a Resto Mod.

As I re-read what I wrote, I guess it does sound like complaining.
I bought the maverick because it fits me better than anything else out there.
If the maverick had more ground clearance I wouldn't have much more to dream about except maybe that ultimate pick up.

All those specs, but make it a cabover so that it can have a long enough bed to fit a piece of plywood (and a decent size camper) but isn't a monster to try to park and maneuver.

I had a '61 Chevy Rampside and it was awesome, but had '61 drivetrain and accoutrements. Modernize that thang and you'd have a great truck. There was talk about Jeep reviving the FC150, and some shade tree artist fabricated a modernized one:

And of course the now defunct Canoo; went broke before they could start production:
