You should never use cruise control on slippery surfaces like ice, snow or rain.

Avoid Cruise Control On Slippery Roads

Fact: Using cruise control when driving in the rain, snow, hail, sleet or ice, slippery roads can affect the system's ability to maintain a constant vehicle speed. On wet roads, cruise control set at too fast a speed could cause the vehicle to hydroplane when it encounters standing water. On very low-traction surfaces such as ice and snow, cruise control operation can result in a skid or spin. Drive safe and avoid using cruise control on slippery roads
On my '12 focus, the instant slippage is detected, the cruise is disabled. I'm not trying to argue. I'm not sure cruise is a good idea when towing, much less in the weather they were in. Just offering my experience.

I am a cc fanatic. Focus on the road not the speedometer and cover the brake when in doubt. Most of the people I know only set the cruse when pulling away from getting a speeding ticket.

I use cruise all the time too! Doesn't matter if it's 80mph all the way down to 30 mph. I wore out the bottom button (decel) of my cruise.

My mantras: "right hand lane, cruise control, audio book" and "people are only in your way if you're trying to go faster than them."

Since I figured out the second, driving has become so much more enjoyable. 😁👍👍

You're not supposed to use control in slippery conditions (rain, snow)
Instinctively I don't. I was so focused on the purpose of the test, I missed the guerrilla in the room.:(

Outstanding review wanted to see the front wheel drive in snow. Towing to boot even with the stock tiers from what I could tell it did outstanding.
engine cover and hood liner will cut down on the noise

These guys generally will call it like it is, so for them to give it this score says a lot about the Hybrid.

Great video! I have had to cross the SC off my list-the seats just don't work with my bad back...so I am looking harder than ever at the Mav...

BTW...I wonder if the Lariat would have been quieter?

Thanks for the video. I have been up and down that stretch of road more times that I can count and was glad to see my future Hybrid Maverick will handle it well.

Good video from them as usual, but deducting points for hard plastic interior on a $27K truck is ridiculous.

I'm really curious about this, is this accurate? I figured engine drone is coming through the dash/feet area mostly in the cabin but I dunno.

The computer shuts off fuel so it's just using the engine compression to provide braking without using any gasoline. See owners manual below -

Hmmm.
It will be interesting to go places where compression braking is not allowed/illegal.

Here is a quote on the topic (bold is theirs):
"According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), municipalities across the nation have banned the use of engine compression brakes because of noise emission which can go on for several minutes and carry more than a mile."

They mentioned the ICE engine was on going downhill to help serve as an engine brake in conjunction with the regen braking of the electric motor. I am hoping that the ICE engine will shut off on steep grades like that when not towing.
If it's anything like my diesel and I don't see why it wouldn't, there is no fuel being injected into the engine, while going downhill. Just because the engine is "running" doesn't mean there is fuel being burned.

Fuel injected vehicles are a different animal than carb'd ones..

I'm guessing that is referring things like a "Jake Brake" on diesels - where the compression from the compression stroke is released ~TDC and is very noisy. The engine braking that's likely going on with the Mav is just the normal drag a gasoline engine puts on the drive train when not given throttle - like downshifting on a downhill in a non-hybrid gasoline vehicle.

The question is, is there an engine cover that fits the hybrid ICE?
