Trailer Hitch Receiver, 4-pin or Not?

Why not just install it yourself? It’s likely 4 bolts into existing holes on the frame. Did the receiver hitch come with mounting hardware?

Good luck..

.
I’m going to see if my son can do it. It did come with directions, but I have a habit of not following them, and end up breaking something. The next problem is the wiring harness.

Also, the 4pin pigtail likely plugs into an existing connector under the bumper. Perhaps someone with a factory installed hitch could provide a pic of that connection.

Good luck..

I see where there is a pigtail coming off of the 4 wire connector and plugging into a socket close to the spare tire. I am assuming that is there even if you didn't get the hitch factory installed. Should be pretty simple.

The picture is much appreciated. If I may impose, can you take a picture of the tag on that harness that would show the part number?

I looked up under my XL Maverick and didn't see any pigtail.

No, Please elaborate on your reply. Does the 4 pin connector come with PT# NZ6Z17D826C? It is clear that the hitch includes the harness if install at the factory but this is pertaining to purchasing and installing the tow package after production.

LOL NO..... that's a pic of the Maverick ordering guide. A question is whether the 4-pin pigtail comes with the receiver hitch when ordered seperately as an accessory....

I looked up under my XL Maverick and didn't see any pigtail.
If not included with the receiver hitch, it appears the pigtail needs to be seperately purchased. In the pic above, following the wiring harness (green/yellow/red wires) up to the white connector. You likely will have that unused white connector that you connect to. It may have a protective cap on it when not used from the factory...

I took my truck to a business that exclusively does truck modifications and deals in accessories. One of the technicians looked under my vehicle and there’s no wiring harness. I went to the Ford dealer’s parts department, and he was able to order the harness and the spring loaded bracket the 4-pin connector goes into. Once I get those parts in, I can take my truck back to the truck accessories business and have them install everything.

This would have been much easier and much cheaper to have it done while the truck was in production. However, as I previously stated, I purchased this truck that someone else couldn’t take delivery on.

How much was the harness and plug receptacle? Part numbers ordered? I agree the factory option was much cheaper but it did seem to help reduce my order lead time. I placed the order 1/5/22 and have a 2/21/22 build week for the "no option" XL EB. My salesperson agreed to add the option at the dealership for the same as factory option cost. I am anxious to see how that goes.

Yeah I don't know why anybody wouldn't pay a $100 for the factory to install the trailer hitch receiver rather than pay $305 after the fact And that's not even installed
I've only towed one thing in my entire life, but for only a $100 bucks for the hitch I said why not.

Do you have to rub it in @Lone Star Proud ? LOL I added nothing on XLT order (July 21) and got it in 2nd week of Jan. No delays, just had to wait for it to get scheduled. I tried to add on the hitch at last minute, but it was too late. So this thread is GOLD to me. Looking forward to seeing the end result with @RonR1959. @CenTexMav thx for the pic, appreciate ya!!!

To be honest with you, I didn't include it at first, but added it later when I removed the impossible to get bed mat.
