Tire rotation question.

2024 Mav Eco FX4, Intelligent AWD. Manual says the first pic for rotation and second pic is from Kal Tire for rotation. Why different? Doesn’t really matter to me cause I don’t drive much and switch tires for seasons. Full winters here, not 3 seasons.

I have always used the X rotation for all my cars and trucks unless the tires are directional.

You're looking at the manual page for FWD tire rotations.
You should look at the section on AWD rotations.

If all 4 fires are the same size, and not directional tread pattern, the rotation purpose is for each tire to spend equal amounts of miles at each wheel location. The way to do that is by crossing one end, and moving the other end straight up or back. The key is to do it the same way each time. I always use crossing the front tires back, and moving the rear tires straight up. Repeat every 5-10K for max tire life.

The reason the Ford manual only shows that rotation pattern is because despite the AWD (fellow FX4 owner here), the truck still is operating as a FWD about 98% of the time. When I watch the AWD screen during normal driving, the rear wheels engage usually only when taking off from a stop.

But to your point, you can do either the front-cross or the criss-cross rotation pattern. It doesn't matter all too much.

I jack up one side of the car and move the front tire to the back and the back to the front on each side. That’s what I have done for 45 years and never had a problem with uneven wear.

I have been driving 50 years and have never rotated tires on any of my vehicles. I have a 16 year old ram with the factory firestones, all 4 tires look the same after 16 years at 39,000 miles. The factory continentals on our 23 mav all look the same at 37,000 miles. If your suspension isnt faulty you shouldn't need to rotate. Just my 2 cents. Spend your money how you see fit

At seven years your tires are called,
“May Pop’s”
At ten years they are called, “Will pops”

The above applies no matter how much tread depth is left. The above applies even if they sat in an air conditioned warehouse for that long.

Driving on 16 year old tires, well, the gene pool does needs cleaning out every now and then. I hope you don’t take anyone with you.

No you didnt. I just replaced the tires on my antique. They were 30 years old. They looked like new. I've never had a tire blow out. More things to worry about. It's your money , spend it as you see fit I have been driving 50 years, if I replaced tires every 8 years on all my vehicles, trailers etc I'd be broke.

I wish I could help you out on this Jay.
I very seldom rotate the tires on my vehicles, if they're all wearing evenly.
If they aren't wearing evenly there are other problems.
October 5th I went out and took pictures of my tires with a tread gauge, at that time I had 22,300 miles on the original Continentals, that were never rotated. I guess I'm not OCD about it.
I try to maintain the correct tire pressure and I consider myself a conservative driver.

CajunMick, I recently took my 24 Mav FWD Hybrid to Ford for my second oil change. They use a partner Quick Lube right next door (on the property/partner) to do their oil changes to relieve some of the volume at the dealer...at least that's what I was told. They rotated my tires front to back...as opposed to crossing the rears to go to the front. I know for sure because I had a plug I did myself in the right rear...and it ended up on the right front. Did it surprise me.....NOPE. That's how the service world is today. NO attention to any detail.

If you're using a lift, go with the first diagram, which the tire-shop shows for FWD. I say this after driving a Subaru Outback for years, which was full-time AWD even at highway speeds.

Do you lift the Mav from a central jacking point?
I like to strain myself as little as possible!
