In the distant past before radial tires became the norm, fires were rotated from side to side and front to rear. They'd eventually be placed on all positions. That changed when radials were used because they couldn't tolerate being moved from side to side where the direction changed after turning one direction for a while. Today it doesn't matter because they indeed can change direction without harm. But I still keep them on the same side because that's what I used to doing
It was always a pain to cross rotate tires on cars that had directional rims.😇

i once installed new directional tires and didn't pay attention to the fact that the rims were also directional.. I ended up having to dismount and reinstall two tires😫

The ones I just picked up, I might have to be careful, the spokes have a rake to them.... or they sell them in sets of 4 lefts.

The guy that buys them is way more often than not the driver/owner who seldom looks at the wrong way side. A plus is that the driver's side always look correct no matter how they are rotated. Directional rims always look good on their side of vehicle. I cannot purchase rims that roll the wrong direction on "their" side of the vehicle no matter how cheaper they are!

I found on our Generation 2 and 3 Prius', that because the dealer never crossed sides on rotation, that the right side tires wore out before the left. (Primary drive wheel must be right front). I now cross rotate one axle every other rotation, I agree that it's much easier to do front to rear and rear to front, however.

Right side is the "downhill" side of the camber on roads, and also will have sharper less worn gravel in the asphalt towards right edge.

It's probably not due to the drive wheel. But it could be because most roads crown to the right. Also no vehicle is in perfect alignment. They're just close and within tolerance. But it's likely that the right front was possibly a bit more toward the edge of the tolerance.
