The Maverick is the first vehicle that I've had for quite some time that proports to have a full size spare (however it is not actually the case for the Lariat model). So back in the day, there were routines to incorporate 5 wheels into the rotation and so theoretically expanding the mileage on the original tires provided. When this strategy was successful, we would replace 4 tires, keeping the best of the originals for a spare. However, all of these considerations go out the proverbial window yesterday when I had a nail in my rear tire sidewall and service man from AAA and I lowered wheel from under the bed. (he really did not need my help except for the requisite tools from behind the back seat which enable us to lower the spare). The wheel that is provided is a 17 inch rim with a 60 aspect ratio. The spare wheel is visibly smaller about 1.5 inches in height It needs to have a 65 aspect ratio to make up for the rim size differential in the Lariat. In my " emergency" situation yesterday it was a rear wheel on FWD vehicle. Not a serious problem there, Had this replacement been made on the front, the 100 mile drive home on Interstate, I believe it may have been more problematic.

Plenty of threads on the spare tire size on here already. Donut, Ford's "full size spare" not being true full size spare and those going out of their way to get the true full size spare, etc.

Not sure what your point is, but a spare tire is not the same as a regular tire. It is designed to get you to a garage and nothing else.

Flat tires are not a simple fix anymore. My niece got a flat on the front of her FWD. The donut was so small, I didn't think it was even safe to drive to the repair shop. I swapped the front and rear for her so that the mini donut was on the back.
