Question: the manual shows or at least seems to indicate that the rotation pattern is to cross-rotate the rear tires to the front and move the front to back. I ran across a video from Test Driven TV and they just rotated front-to-back/back-to-front on same side. I went with the manual when I did mine at about 7500 - and then noticed the manual just has the rotation at 10k with the oil change and other inspection stuff.

I think the standard these days is front-back/back-front on the same side, but I went with the manual. What say ye?

The cross pattern is the correct way. At 5000 miles
Oil? Depends on driving habits, run time etc but one shoe does not fit all. With direct injection engines need to watch for fuel dilution

How I was taught over 20 years ago

AWD = front to back straight or cross depending on wear pattern.

FWD = cross rear to front, front straight back.

RWD = rear straight to front, front cross to rear.

Dually = front goes to outside rear, outside rear goes to inside of same hub, inside crosses to the front.

**Simple method, drive tires go straight, non-drive tires cross!!

You can check michelinman.com for precise modern advice for all cases of drive. (Both are acceptable).

I say its easier to do the work that way because I don't have to have a wheel up in the air on one side front and another jack up on the rear on the opposite side compared to the front tire. That balancing act bothers me.

When walmart rotated my tires they refused to do the tire rotation of the X as in the manual.
They would only agree to front to back and back to front same sides.

I am considering that because no jack stands neede: 1 . jack up front right while 1 jack up rear left. those two up in the air at same time held by jack stands on opposite ends of car made me a bit nervous, seemed one jack stand was up bit higher then the other, and may fall ending in disaster.

5 tire method i saw on youtube looked like a nice approach. Because there is only one tire on the jack at a time while the spare makes the tire exchange from one wheel to other, until all four tires have found their new home. Then the spare goes back to its stored location.

Just wish the spare tire would be so difficult to drop and then go back up.

If you have five the same. Old days was... Front to back straight. Rear to cross front and spare swaps spot with left front.
Way i was told, 40+ years ago...

RWD and 4WD is spare to right rear and left front becomes the new spare. Non directional tires of course.

I believe it's the same for FWD? Maybe it's right front becomes new spare instead of left like it is on RWD/4WD.

You can visit your local Discount Tire and they can give proper tire rotation sequences. No purchase necessary.

I agree with this scenario but now have to throw another consideration into the mix... I have a set of snows on for 4 months and a set of summers for the balance of the year and now how does that mess with the mathematical protocols? FYI I just go "front to back" on my AWD vehicles. My Porsche I have directional tires and you can't do that and when one wears out... they all go.

Not sure if you have a Discount tire in your area but they rotate tires for free even if not bought there. Just make sure you go to Discount tire and not Tire Discounters (Big difference)

Some tires are directional (many snow tires, especially), so your only option is front↔rear on them.

I've been doing it front↔rear with all my tires on all my vehicles for years with no problems. Besides, it's easier that way and they will wear evenly enough if you keep your alignment in spec.
