I installed a tailgate assist strut, following the instruction video - but the tailgate cable binds on opening and closing. Did I do something wrong? I considered just removing the cable, but wanted to see if there are others who've had and overcome this issue?

Which way is the strut rod facing?

A pic might help...

I agree, a picture is needed. I have never had an issue with that.

Jim DO NOT REMOVE THE CABLE.
I haven't had any problems.
Pictures would sure be helpful.
I just took this 8 sec. video. Showing how mine works.
Jim, what appears to operate differently with yours?

The cable hangs on the inside of the strut.

I had that problem. It was because the plate the strut attaches to rotates, moving the connecting point of the strut. The cable can then move behind the strut when the tailgate is closed.

Solution was loosen the bolt holding the plate, rotate the plate so it's vertical, and then you have to really crank down on the bolt so the plate doesn't rotate again.

I would never install TA b/c of these many little issues. However, sounds like a bit of loc-tite on the bolt threads could tidy it up.

The problem isn't the bolt actually loosening. It's just how the plate mounts, if it's not tight enough, it can twist since only 1 bolt holds it on. It's been OK now for about a year now though.

🤷‍♂️ Never mind then, don't use loc-tite on the threads or interface.

I never had a problem with mine, but there was an Etsy shop selling a 3D-printed device that guides the cable into the proper orientation every time. I bought one to prevent any future aggravation; works like a charm. Sorry, no link, I can't access Etsy on my work computer.
