Back in the 90s a friend of our daughter was driving home from college when she had a flat about 50 miles from home. The doughnut spare was supposed to be good for 100 miles at 35 mph. She figured if that was the case she could drive 70 mph for 50 miles! Thankfully she survived.
They must have missed the warning label. They used to be actually imprinted in the sidewalls.

What good is a spare tire if you can't safely use it....
What kind of spare tire are you referring to?

Some trims now, MY25+, don't even get a spare, just a fix a flat kit. :( I'm glad I got the full size rim with the not to full size spare at least.
Yea, you should be glad you actually got one. If you're throwing any more away, I'd gladly take them off your hands!

Do you think ANY manufacturer provide a spare tire that is NOT safe to use following the instructions for it's use? Yeah they love those liability lawsuits so much they intentionally provide unsafe items on their vehicles 🤣

Interesting. I have a 2025 Lariat Hybrid AWD. I have no problem with the "full size" or "conventional" spare being on a steel wheel. I also have no problem with it being a 17" instead of the 19" that is on all four corners. All that matters is that the diameter, circumference, and revs/mile are very close.

That is where Ford did not do a great job. The tire on the ground on all four corners is the 225/55R19. The closest 17" is the 225/65R17 which Ford should have used. It is smaller by only 0.70% (I bought a steel wheel and this tire as my second spare.) Instead, Ford used the 215/60R17 which is smaller by 5.23%.

I'd say. If you were on a trip. It would be safe to continue a trip with it, until you can get a matching replacement.
I certainly agree, but personally the main reason I like to have a true matching spare is that you often find tire dealers that won't sell you one odd tire, they always pressure to buy in pairs/sets - sometimes refusing to do the work outright unless you do. That makes it particularly tough if you ruin the tire completely, or damage the sidewall, and they can't quickly source the matching replacement. So much easier if you can cycle the spare in seamlessly, and avoid the fight altogether...

Maybe it's different down here.
I've never had that problem with tire dealers, Walmart, Sam's or Costco.
I've had them say no, that they would not repair a tire because of dry rot (small cracks along the sidewall) Even though there was plenty of tread left.
They have never refuse to sell me just one tire.

So you think most of the people posting have read their manual? 🤣
They don't even read all the posts in the threads, before posting a response.😂

I'll get right on it, as soon as I finish reviewing the terms and conditions of my Apple agreement! 🤫:lying:

Google can't give me an easy answer if my 26 Lariat can have a full size 19" tire and wheel as a spare. Keeps pointing me back to the posts around here discussing 17" wheels. I am guessing a 19" is a no go. Would be great to have on a road trip into the Rockies.
I tore the sidewall on one of my 6K mile Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT 225/55 R19 tires a week ago. I had already purchased an aftermarket 19" steel wheel. Bought two new 19" Wranglers to go on the front. The "old" 19" tire went on the steel wheel and up under the bed of my Lariat. No problem. I don't see it hanging down.
I did learn that my truck does not like driving on that micro spare one bit.

What's a micro spare?
I agree if you're talking about one of these.

Any chance you can tell us Lariat owners which 19" wheel did you get? I learned from my F-150 days that Ford usually has a different offset than most aftermarket wheels.

It fit under there fine?
Well, initially, I thought so - it was pretty tight so I drove it a couple days and then got underneath and looked and those puncture teeth were sitting inside of the tread which I didn’t like so I ended up doing like some others and bent the teeth down so they weren’t sticking straight out. I think it’s fine now.
