Why not let Ford replace it under Customer Satisfaction Program 24B22? They did mine and it appears to cover all 24's.

Wondering if I can fit a 235/65 R17 spare? Thought I read somewhere I'd need to bend back the teeth that are supposed to pop the spare in a rear-end collision.

It's an investment, but one off-road flat would probably justify the cost of a proper spare.

If there were a problem with the use of the slightly smaller spare, I would expect Ford to have a warning about its use, particularly for extended highway driving. After all, they are covering it under their warranty, especially if you get the extended packages.

If I was going off roading I would want full size spare . Also would carry it in bed for easy access if needed along with other emergency equipment .

Did you ever get a new spare. I need to replace mine with something that fits over my wheel lights and dont need the one that came with mine.

Not yet, going to check on the free Ford replacement first.
