I look at this as different. You were in a caught in limbo situation. My frustration is the people we see saying they going to different dealers putting in 2, or even more, orders to see which is built first or to flip since there is no risk to do it.

Even if it's only 5% of orders (just my guess) that's almost a month's production wasted. Sure it's their right, not saying otherwise. I just don't like it. It's like the guy who won't let you zipper merge when a lane ends. It doesn't really make things for them go faster, and screws things up for the whole when it happens enough, but at least they have satisfied their impatience a little...
Thanks for your kind comments. I feel a little guilty ordering a second one when I haven’t even received the first one yet. I’ll be 15-16 months since ordering if I get a delivery by November. Just figured if I didn’t order a Lariat now, I’d probably be looking at 2 years to get another shot at one considering delivery times. I agree making multiple orders with the goal of flipping just isn’t cool when so many people are having difficulty purchasing them within the system.

I am on my third order and haven't got one yet. I do have an awd, fx4 xlt (my second order) scheduled for the Sept 26 build.

My second order, a fwd, xlt (actually first order) never got a Vin number. It was a dealer stock order, not mine, so i dont get the rollover option or financial offer. I am a little miffed about that, but in the end it didnt matter.

I am trying to order a third, a tremor xlt. And it didn't qualify for the ford financial offer anyway. Who knows how long it will take to get it.

I used to sell high end electric guitars back in the 1980s and 90s. The company I was a dealer for had a six month back order list. If I wanted stock, I had to order early and extra.

I think it is far less than 10%, probably less than 5%. Not counting those people that ordered a 22 and then a 23. Or people who actually want two, or 5. husband / wife both get one? Small company with 4 or 5 trucks, they don't qualify for fleet.

So people actually buying a bunch flip? Maybe 1%, its really overblown I think. There is potential for profit, but the risk is also high. I think it's dumb and there are many other safer ways to make money but if somebody wants to take the risk, go ahead in my opinion.

So, how many orders (percentage wise) do people guess are multiples for flipping or to see what comes in first? I keep seeing it post, and find it aggregating to be honest. While I know it's allowed so fair game, it seems to be part of the problem in why we are having issues getting these things delivered. So how much in the big picture do you guys think this is?
Your grievance should be with Ford, not other customers.

I dont think its happening at a high rate, but it is going on.

The ones flipping them for profit are the same to me as dealers marking them up. They both cause problems for people trying to buy at MSRP or just getting one built because of multi ordering.

Sure you can take all the food samples off the tray at the store, but should you?

I don't think it's a high rate, but I am guessing it's an impactful one.

I agree it's not wrong by policy or law. Doesn't make it right.

Don’t work like that no more. They care, it waste employee manpower and nets them zero profit. Most commission employees and sales managers get bonuses for clearing sales.
Not in my world. That sounds good in theory, or for dealership with high sales volume but smaller dealership will do this when they reach allocation limits.

I ordered 2, both the same, except one is XLT, and the other is Lariat; I'm not sure which one I want. So I'm not flipping.... If I was, why should it matter to you? Why aren't you on your soap box for the dealers asking for 50K over MSRP for the LIghting, and 50K over MSRP for a Bronco?

If they tell you up front, don't love it but it's up to you as you can go elsewhere. If they don't it really messed up.

But neither of these impact other orderers from getting an truck. For every Maverick built for someone that doesn't really want It is a Maverick not going to someone waiting for their order.

So you have two options then…

1. Do it yourself
2. Sit on your hands and be upset about it

You should be upset with Ford. Absolutely nothing wrong with customers ordering what they want to order with their own money.

Who should take the blame? Ford, no one else but Ford!

Suppose I'm a sincere, honest but desperate buyer for a Maverick, I'll do:

1.) I'll order a Maverick from Dealer A;
2.) Wait, can A get an allocation for me? I'd better have a back-up order from Dealer B;
3.) Wait, is Dealer B an greedy dealer who is going to demand a huge makeup or to inflat the price with dubious dealer-installed options? I'd have another back-up order with Dealer C
4.) Wait, what if some of my option items are constrained? Let me have a couple other back-up orders with Deal D, E, F, G......

All those back-ups won't be necessary, if Ford can just let me make ONE single order and honor it in a fair way.

I get it if you order more than one and buy them. Maybe you want to drive each and figure out which is right. Who knows?

What I don't get is ordering more than one and only buying one. At least buy what you order.
A large number, I believe, who ordered more than one due to constraints and also because of feeling insecure of having a dealer with an allocation, then having to choose one because he/she cannot qualify for both loans. So maybe the buyer even winds up with a truck which is not the preferred one he actually ordered. I ordered an XLT LUX and two months later ordered an XLT without LUX. The lux is in production for over two weeks and the non lux is scheduled to be built in three weeks. I do intend to purchase both and either my son or daughter will wind up with the one they prefer and I will take the other. Assuming of course both will actually be built and I don't run out of money. My wife is enjoying her hybrid lariat lux she picked up in March when it became available at a dealership. This has become over a year long project.
