Yea that was my concern also with getting caught in the tailgate when closing. But it is an option if you need that tie down point and perhaps the other hole would be better. I just took my tie down off and never replaced it when I got the tailgate asisst.

This person added a tie down to replace the one removed for the tailgate assist.

That's how I store and keep track since I do all my own maintenance.
