Yes, you CAN lock the key inside on a 2022-2024 Maverick.

From what I've read on here, including this post, the 2025 locks on it own with the key inside.

My keypad was factory installed also.
Yes, as soon as I made the idiotic statement about the older models not being equipped with the keypad from the factory, two 2023 Mavericks came in the shop with the factory keypad. They could have come in earlier and saved me to embarrassment of being wrong 😅. But the 2025 does not lock with the keys inside unless you lock it. Of that I am very sure since I do have a 2025 that I often leave the keys inside of when I go walking. And I do have to use the ugly dealer installed keypad to lock it. .

Find that option and report it!

Posters have been asking for it for awhile now.
I'll try to remember to look next time I'm in the truck. It's been pretty cold here, I haven't been looking for excuses to get outside :) As I mentioned, though, what I found does not appear to work consistently. Maybe Murphy is in my truck's computer. Yesterday I thought I'd use the phone app to warm the truck up for a few minutes before I had to leave. Of course, when I fired up the app, I got "Sorry, you need to upgrade" message. So, I did that, it took its sweet time, and when I tried to use it again, it refused to run, giving an "unexpected error" message. Turns out the phone had to be rebooted, which is something that whoever at Ford is responsible for the app should have known, and have taken steps to either force the reboot, or at minimum to inform the user that one would be necessary.

My Android has never needed a reboot on app upgrade.
But indeed - those sorts of goofiness is when I recall I haven't powered cycled it in a looong time, and it's time.

Ya - sitting playing with menus on cold buttons/screen doesn't exactly keep ya warm enough.

This is an Android phone, and it gets powered off every evening and powered back on every morning. Neither Play Store nor the app itself told me that the upgrade required a reboot. I tried to open the app 3x, and each attempt failed with "unexpected error", I then rebooted and after that it worked fine.

My 2025 is the first FOB vehicle I've ever seen that lets you accidentally lock yourself out with the FOB inside. Has happened to me a few times because the doors seem to lock themselves arbitrarily. But I have luckily had my phone in my pocket and could unlock them through the app. But today I left both the fob and my phone in the car when I jumped out to move something and the door locked automatically behind me and I was locked out of the running truck. Had to call my wife to drive over with her FOB. My previous cars were unlockable when the fob was inside the car. You could lock them from inside but as soon as you open the door to get out all of the doors would unlock.
I also hate the arbitrary horn beeping that happens sometimes when you get out of the car and shut the door behind you. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for when it does that. I'm apologizing to startled bystanders all the time.

Did you check any of the other doors, or just the driver's when you discovered your were locked out?

I was one of the first to have this happen to back in 2022. No rhyme nor reason, sometimes I discovered my doors had locked after exiting the vehicle, but I never heard the "thump" of the power locks operating.

I eventually realized it was only the driver's door that was locking, and that was the clue:
If you pull the handle and push with your hand at the same time, your hand can inadvertently push the toggle to the "lock" position, locking that door only.

Ford eventually issued a SSM on this:

SSM 53634 2021-2025 Bronco Sport, 2020-2025 Escape, 2022-2025 Maverick - Uncommanded Locking Of The Driver Door After The Door Is Closed
Drivers of some 2020-2025 Escape, 2021-2025 Bronco Sport and 2022-2025 Maverick vehicles may report the uncommanded locking of the driver door after the door is closed. This may be due to the driver placing their hand on the interior front door handle and inadvertently pushing the manual door lock toggle into the lock position. If the lock and latching mechanisms are functioning normally, and if there are no related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) or other issues identified, then the system is operating as designed.

I think people are starting to understand, albeit slowly. I think this post sets all time record for most pages on one topic. 🤔

We will have more threads on the subject. As long as there are folks who still believe, that their Maverick is automatically locking the door as they walk away with their keys in the truck or their pocket.

The "Walk away Auto locking" phenomenon, seems to be quite elusive. No one has been able/willing to capture on video.
It seems to be the Bigfoot of events.
Two of us have been able to video our trucks a 2023 xlt post#94 and 2025 lariat post #97 being left alone for a period of time over 10 mins. and the doors have remained unlocked.🤷‍♂️

Paul,
See post #19
You're inadvertently locking it yourself.
The Maverick will not auto lock while unattended, no matter how long it's parked.
Not one person has ever been able prove such an occurrence through video documentation.
It's pretty easy to do. You get out of your truck as normal, set the phone next to to the door on the drivers seat or on a small tripod sitting on the console, leave it recording. The sound of the door locking will be evident on the video.
Example of a very simple setup using $1.99 tripod.

I used this method in the refrigerator, yes the light goes out when you close the door! 🤣

Records are made to be broken.
I think it may take "just a few" more posts before this non-existent issue becomes the g.o.a.t. in terms of the number of posts, as it's currently only a paltry 8 pages.

Look down below:
"Car locked me out with keys inside" is 13 pages as of this moment, although it hasn't been added to lately, but it's as much of a non event as this thread.

Maybe it's time for both threads to go seriously off topic into something actually less relevant...
Perhaps a foray into a "Now, for something completely different" a la Monty Python...
Nevermind..
Unlike this thread, that would just be silly.

In the interest of trying to make this the GOAT thread ---

Bought my 23 Lariat from CarMax. What's this key you speak of. Push button start, so no key. I don't think it has remote start, so why do I need the Ford app? Does have keypad. I bought a Faraday bag and an extra fob which I keep in the truck if I ever lose/misplace my fob.

You don't "need" it, but the truck can be started remotely with the Ford app regardless of how it was equipped.

I also like that the app can tell me how much gas I've got left if I'm not in the truck for a few days and don't remember, etc. There are other status items you can see in the app as well.

Some find it handy.

I was about to reply with this. A lot of people accidentally lock the driver’s door by bumping into the latch

I tested the door locking on it's own a couple of years ago. 3 Out of 5 times it locked till January of 24 then it stopped.
