Locked key in Mav

Excellent question a couple weeks ago at the store I locked my keys in the car and when I went out and tried the Driver’s door sure enough it was locked, and I could see my key fob in the car. I thought I was totally screwed because my phone was in the car too so I couldn’t use Ford pass, but I just happen to try the other side of the car and those doors were not locked, so I’m wondering if it somehow is designed that way. Anyway, I learned to always at least be sure I have my phone with me. Lol

It has to do with how you push your door open and inadvertently pushing the manual lock/ unlock Lever. It's easy to do.

In any vehicles, I always hide a dumb key outside with a zip tie, put my extra key fob inside with a faraday box. That way if I lose key fob I use dumb key to unlock door then get other key fob from inside. Good insurance.

Couldn't you unlock it with the Ford App remotely from your phone?

Mine regularly locks drivers door. Very annoying

Believe it or not. It's you. Ford has issued a bulletin saying that many owners inadvertently lock the door when opening it. We've had several customers argue with us but realized that it was easy to do if not paying attention. It's a poor design. I actually did it once on a customer vehicle before I purchased my Maverick.

If I had locked my key in, I would have used the app to unlock it. I know, Ford tracks everything I do. I sold my soul for convenience!

Left my key in the cubby and it locked itself. Or, maybe I did it.(XLT) I called the cops and it took him 5 minutes to unlock the door with a rod. Pretty easy. Too easy?
So, know a locked door is a small impediment.

Hold on ... You called the COPS and they came and unlocked your truck for you ???

I'm guessing you don't live in a large city

I guess we haven't had enough keys locked in car threads to get the reminders out how this happens.

Due to drivers own hand.

And the caveats and differences with keyless entry.
And settings for unlock all or not on drivers door open.

Oh, yes. More than once. Because I've hit the little lever by the door handle multiple times I didn't worry, at first.

I have a 2024 XLT and volunteer with Meals on Wheels. I jump in and out of the truck often, to walk the food up to the house. Surprising how often the front driver door locks. The other three doors are always unlocked. I just tried locking my keys in the truck, and it locked them in. My 2014 Prius doesn't allow that. Come on Ford, you can do better than that!

Watch where your hand placement is when you push open your driver's door.
More than likely You're accidentally.....

.......pushing the lock/unlock lever to the LOCKED Position.

There are times I purposely lock my keys, wallet and my phone in my truck. When I go hiking, ATV riding and don't want to lose them.

Will the Prius purposely allow you to lock the keys in if that is really what you wanted to do - like pushing on some different button?
