Hybrid and ICE will dead end eventually, but not tomorrow. As long as charging is an issue (And it is in many places, particularly for renters) gas will continue to exits.

I think Plugins are going to be what finally upsets the ICE market though, once all these new battery factories come online and prices drop.

Most agree full electric is great for shorter commutes like in big cities, however think a minute, envision large city communities that have street parking only, where and how will these vehicles be charged? Low income people have enough of a problem paying the electric bill as is, add daily vehicle charging not to mention thousands of cords attached to vehicles parked on the street, can anyone say "theft". Then add the high cost of the vehicle, ICE will be around a long time. Don't think of only your situation in life, think of how others can/will be affected. Commuters of longer distance, pleasure or business cannot rely on full electric, not at this time but perhaps in the distant future.

Reality is full electric vehicles (BEV) are already outselling Hybrids (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV) by 3-1 globally. Europe has already set 2035 as the last year a Hybrid can be sold new.
The real question is when will the US do the same, and what will gas cost in 2035 or 2040. Since gasoline will not go away entirely in the US, some forcast gas will be really cheap but taxed high.

The one important thing, that no one mentions here is what if you live in a apartment building, or rent a house you don't own, how do you charge an electric vehicle? Hybrids fill that gap. Plug in hybrids are one step closer. I'm from New York, and know this would be a problem.

I think Plug In hybrids will become popular until people are ready for the full electric. If you don't need to tow things, the full battery electrics are much more convenient than most people think. I've had gas, diesel, hybrid, plug in hybrid, and full electric. Plug in hybrid would put most people on 100% electric 95% of the time. I only put gas in mine a couple times a year. I'm now full electric and don't find any downside. I'm here waiting for Ford to release a full electric version of the Maverick. It would be their best seller, easily.
I agree with this, but the PHEV's need more than 29 miles range in pure elec, if they got 50 miles in pure elec I think more people would get them.

BAsically what you are saying is, our infrastructure isn't ready for it.

Ford Authority in November 2021 reported Ford Motor Company and Purdue University have been working on a new charging station that would charge an EV in about the same amount of time as a gas refuel. Ford has recently applied for a patent for this new technology.

My assumption is Ford sees the future and is strategically planning to meet the needs to include the two new plants in Tennesse and Kentucky to be built in the next 5 years.

As for me, I plan to go full EV when the charging infrastructure is in place which I actually think will be sooner than later. I have transitioned to battery operated lawn equipment and love it! Will never return to gas powered again.

It's great to have this technology, but if there are no places to charge this technology it's useless.

I'm not sure why QuickTrips and other fueling stations aren't adding elec charging stations.

Let me disagree with with the notion that the future of hybrid technology is a plugin option. As time goes on, hybrid technology has diverged from the development electric cars. No longer is a hybrid an electric car with an onboard gasoline powered generator. The motors are different, the batteries are different and the charging systems are different.

Public perception seems stuck on the notion that all you need to do is add a bigger (10x) battery and you can plug it in and have the best of both worlds. This negates all the engineering that has gone into the development of this modern hybrid which gets 40 mpg and has the power to accelerate a not so light truck. Past attempts-- the C-max plugin-- have resulted a vehicle which does neither very well.

I think the future lies in developing this technology for bigger and bigger vehicles. An f150 with an ecvt transmission and 35 mpg to start. No plug-in.

This country is not ready for full EV switchover. Just look at Tesla's supercharging stations in busy areas, sometimes there is a 2 hour wait. Hell, you can't even get gas at Costco unless you are willing to wait in line for 20 mins. In LA at least...

I totally believe Hybrid technology should be researched/expanded until this country has the infrastructure for EVs only. We are still a good 50 years away from a total and complete EV switch.

The cheapest decent electric car which is a Model 3, is still 50-53k after tax and fees depending on what state you live in. People aren't going to be super enticed to buy an EV until there is a reliable model under 25k that has a 350 mile range. The only way to successfully mandate EVs is by redesigning them to have replaceable battery packs that are cross compatible between makes and models, then instead of parking to charge them at a charging station, you go to a "battery station" where a robotic machine unplugs the battery, plugs in a charged one, you swipe your credit card and drive off.

I purchased a new chevy volt in 2017. The volt IMHO is the best tech of both worlds. 50 miles pure electric. Only after battery is depleted does the ICE generator kick in. Last year I spent approximately $50.00 on gas. Full electric for almost all day trips plus no range anxiety for longer trips. Is there PHEV pickup out there? I will take it over Hybrid but I couldn't find one so the Maverick hybrid was the best choice.

..... while hybrid tech has been around for quite awhile now, not many automakers have jumped on it and is there even a future for it with the 100% electric everything revolution in full swing?

What are your thoughts?
I think your supposition that not many automakers have embraced hybrids is a little off.

Name one car brand that has not offered or is currently offering a hybrid vehicle?

Answer, every manufacturer out there has offered or is currently offering hybrid vehicles.

Most brands are talking about going 100% electric, there will always be a market for vehicles that don't depend 100% on electricity.

I don’t think there will be a lot more spending on hybrid technology as it exists today. Even Toyota is transitioning their development into all electric. But hybrid is quite mature now, and one bought today will likely last until the cost and charging concerns of EVs are mooted.

Until electric gets 1000+ mile range, it is a complete no-go. I live in Texas. On a "typical" weekend, I drive 600-800 miles. On a 3-day weekend I might do 1000+ and never leave Texas. Just from my house to work and back is 100 miles (at 70MPH), and if I need to see a customer I could easily do 400-500. On my last trip with the family, we drove almost 7000 miles (Texas-> California->Seattle->back to Texas). On that trip there was a WHOLE lot of nothingness where there will likely never be a charging station (in Wyoming, I drove over an hour not seeing a single house, car, or any signs of civilization).

Funny enough, I can see the new Tesla building being built from my house. However, I have no friends or neighbors that own one (their driving habits are similar to mine). They are just completely impractical where I live. However, the hybrid Maverick is completely practical (good gas mileage, unlimited range, decent utility, easier to park than my F350, etc.).

My thoughts exactly about the Quik Trips ...why have they not added EV stations?

Actually, I was driving home from Colorado this past August and stopped at a Pilot Travel Center (new build) outside of Wichita Falls, Tx and it had about 10 Tesla charging stations. What a nice surprise! This is a rural county along a major Highway 287. I just think it will take time to build the infrastructure. Is it there no .... but someone, somewhere will solve the problem.
