Like a lot of you m Mac suffers from the shudder issue. Happens very often letting off the accelerator. Happened the other day when I was STOPPED letting a pedestrian pass. The typical shudder 'fix' is to blip the throttle, but since there was a human in front of me...dangerous...

I've done some testing to see what makes it worse or better. If you have time please try these things:
1) Change MODE - I never have shuddering in SPORT mode and accordingly it is worst in eco mode.
2) Turn Off HVAC - in just a few days of testing if HVAC is OFF (i.e. no heat or AC) shuddering does not occur.

Hi there! This doesn't sound like the kind of experience we want you to have. If you send over a private message with your VIN and dealership information, I'd be happy to look into things for you.

This is a fantastic thread, thanks for trying to actually pinpoint. It gives me hope that maybe they can fix it on the software end one day, similar to the brake issue. Do you think that’s the case?

No. Not software. Mechanical.

I almost never use HVAC.
I'm always going for max. MPG.

I have the shudder quite a lot.
Almost always, or always, when the gas engine is shutting off.

It's worse if I'm gently accelerating (using battery power) during a shut down.

It's worse if I'm gently braking (regen) during an engine shut down.

It's there but more mild if I'm simply coasting during a shut down.

BY FAR the most violent (and I mean violent like a 7.0 Earthquake - I'm an Earth Scientist, so have a good idea of what that means) was right AFTER a full throttle burst, then a shut down.

I had to accelerate VERY briskly to make a lane change in time to make a freeway transition then had to sustain braking (which shut off the engine) in the 55 mph range and it shook like I had 2 or 3 flat tires, at the same time, at 55 mph. It was probably my first time at full throttle / full power since owning the truck.

I think there is some merit to this being caused by the clutch/damper assembly. Some have had it replaced. Now I need to read up IF the replacement solved the issue.

Wow. I've NEVER felt a shudder like that in my hybrid. Gotta be something - probably the dampener. I hope you have success getting the dealer to address it!

I'm trying to get my shutter on film so I can show my advisor at ford. Does your engine also sound like it knocking or stalling when the gas engine is shutting down for electric power?

Seems like the shudder and grabby breaks are some what related. At least for me, the one that seems to take them away or at least lessen, is putting the truck in slippery mode.

At the same time, it seems like I'm getting more mpg when I'm on that mode thanks to one member who suggested it.

After 18k miles, I started to experience the shudder during transition from gas to electric. Not all the time, but it was noticeable enough when it did happen for my girlfriend to wonder what just happened.

Here's my "problem".

Do I bother with trying to get it fixed now? While it is new and low miles? Or wait until Ford gets more data and experience at fixing the issue?

I think you may have a point on waiting. let ford get a few more of these under their belt and come up with the correct fix. That is as long as it is not a problem driving it or if it gets worse!

I think there are two “shudders” that are being confused on this forum as a whole:

1.) Significant jarring and jerking (similar to hitting rumble strips) when the ICE is cold and just kicking in - typically only happens once in a while. Disengaging the accelerator and then reengaging stops the problem.

2.) What is being described on this thread as a slight “flutter” when the ICE is transitioning from electric. It’s reoccurring and can be considered normal operation. It’s just not that smooth of a transition.

Not trying to stir anything up - I’ve experienced both of these and the dealers are clueless to a fix on #1.

I too have the slight shudder and am in the same dilemma.

Hi there. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.

I have experienced different "flavors".
But to me, it is "probably" the same root cause. Clutch / damper sounds like a really convincing culprit.

But 🤷🏻‍♂️
