I hope you did paint the raw edges after you drilled holes or removed old bolts. It’s also not a bad idea to paint over the heads and nuts on the new hardware. Otherwise, you just create a new place for rust to start.

I brushed on black touch up paint on the raw surfaces.

I am using a curt relay box, but only that. It's a powered box and I have my own fuse housing. It's only a 10 amp fuse. I'm not using the pre-fab connector splices or the T-taps (they are no good). I much prefer my own soldering with good heat shrink tubing.
I have had three curt relay boxes using their prefab connectors and never had any issues but solder with heat shrink properly done is much better. I prefer heavy wire to rear where I can have aux 12v battery and pure sine inverter to run tools, etc. OEM battery under rear passenger seat is big plus for wire length to tail gate.

I've used the same type of hitches but just the regular Reese brand. Put em on the front of my Comanche and the Rear of my Bronco. I personally just welded them on to the square tube bumpers I made. I had more stuff to attach to on the Comanche but like yours for the backside of the bumper bar I just cut a couple small triangles of 1/4" steel and welded them in as gussets. the most I've towed with it was a short pull of 7500lbs uphill offroad but regularly would pull 2000-5000lbs with it.

Well I kinda of alluded to it already. I didn't realize the Maverick was the perfect vehicle for me until the demand was insanely high and they weren't taking orders for 2023's. So I had to wait until the order banks opened for 2024 in July. Before the banks opened I found out they swapped the drive trains with regard to which was standard and which was an option. So I knew that going in that I'd have to pay for the hybrid option, which I absolutely wanted. Everything else was far less important to me and I was told that keeping my order simple might help it get built faster. On top of that, the dealer didn't Even have a price for me when I ordered it so I didn't want to invite some surprise on myself by ordering an option that was way overpriced. Historically, I think manufacturers charge too much for options which is how they turn much more profit than the base vehicle. So I decided that any option I might want in the future, I would handle myself and probably do it cheaper than the manufacturer.

Technically that's still true since I'll have less than $100 into this hitch install, but the amount of time I'll spend is a lot. Also, in hindsight I made a mistake in not checking the option prices for the 2023 Mavericks to see how cheap the hitches were for that year, but I think the Ford website wouldn't even let me go through the build and price process when I decided I wanted to order one. So that's the consequence of not getting in on this process early enough....I have to put in a bunch of time to get exactly what I want for an affordable price... For me anyway. Don't worry though, I always do things right. I'm a mechanical engineer with a lot of hands-on experience and access to a full machine shop and electronics shop if I need them.

I also plan on adding the extra tie down hooks to the bed myself and doing my own spray in bed liner. It seems like the raptor kits on Amazon are a good bang for the buck.
Very pleased with how our 23 ecoboost tows our 3100 lb boat!

That's encouraging to hear considering I'm only planning to haul about 1500 lbs of dirt bikes on a flat bed trailer.

Yeah like I said, I would've paid the $100 if I had known it was that cheap. My salesman had no pricing available when I ordered it because I was literally the first person through the door in the morning of the first day the order banks opened and I was also told that fewer options might get me further ahead in line.

I was quoted over $800 just for the OEM hitch, with no wiring.

I plan to also do the wiring when the kit comes in. I ordered a kit through tractor supply because they had the best price. I will be cutting into the vehicle harnesses and soldering everything rather than using extra connectors. I don't like extra potential leak points and extra places for pins to fail and break connection. My 2011 Fiesta had a ground lose connection through a head light connector so I had to bypass it with a bare wire.
I didn't get a hitch on my 2023 because I was told it was a constraint. So I followed what I was told "Ditch the hitch". I fixed it though I bought a 2024 with a hitch. LOL

Certainly a lot less work to buy another truck than what I just did. 🤣

Do not cut into existing wiring. Too many problems. The added draws on existing wiring will increase complexity to the computer. ... Good luck.
Is there an angle I'm missing or is making our vehicles this smart a really dumb trend?

On the customer side it seems all negative:
- Less DIY friendly
- higher likelihood things fail because of tighter (unnecessary) tolerances
- higher cost to fix minor things do to complexity in parts
- etc

What is the upside?

Seems like upside "could" be a system smart enough to tell you, subtly, your cheap bulb is failing or failed without you getting out of the car.

However, instead it seems to get us a vehicle that won't even start or covers your whole dash with repeated warnings until you buy an overly complex and expensive led with unnecessary integrated electronics.

There is a very practical simplicity to being able to connect a $10 light duty trailer light harness to your rear light wiring and just being done with it. What am I missing 😞⁉

I told my Dealer exactly what I wanted, and was willing to wait for that. I didn’t care about “constraints” because I wasn’t in a hurry. It took 400 days for it to be delivered, but I don’t regret waiting.

You cannot add additional bulbs to the circuits on existing circuits without updating modules so they can handle the amount of current differences between the additional bulbs being there and working or not working. A possibility that when trailer plug is used they are on separate harness controlled by the canbus because the current needs for different trailers can be tested separately (or not at all, but that would still allow detection of trucks rear lights properly working or not). If trailer has brakes it could be determined if they are working. Note that trucks tilt sensors could be calibrated if it's known when the trailer harness is connected. Allowing the truck to adjust for additional tongue weight so truck will perform downhill assist properly. I had two recalls done today in my driveway and tech say after I asked that things were getting insane and that just replacing the tail light assembly could require updating software to verify things would work properly. He had just replaced a rear tail light on an f-150 with $100 deductable extended service plan warranty that cost would have been $1400. ( I might look for a good 1998 Ranger???)

Nice job Crash11, A lot of people do not realize that the $100 hitch was a " build constraint" item 18-24 months ago. So a lot of folks deleted the hitch from their order just to get a better chance of getting picked to build your Maverick. I did that on my Mav #1. I also switched to EB AWD to increase my chances of getting built. It worked.

I ordered an XLT with hitch and inverter and kept my order in place for an XLT LUX hitch, inverter I had made six months before. I got the lux in 13 months and the XLT with hitch five months later. So enough cancelled their hitch so I could get mine before some of them got theirs after dropping their hitch. Once I place the orders I made NO CHANGES.
