Hate to ask but before I crawl under my 2025 Hybrid, are there any "special" tools I will need to access the oil pan drain plug or filter? Any tips that will help? I didn't even see the drain plug socket requirement in the manual. Anything to save me some ups and downs for this old body is appreciated! (and yes, I tried to search this site but didn't find what I need).
Cheers y'all

No special tools required except to have the proper oil filter wrench. Just changed mine and my wife's the other day and the oil filter is on there pretty tight.
You'll need a T30 bit for the 15 screws to take off the undercarriage shield and a 15mm socket for the drain plug. That's pretty much it. A ramp will definitely help as well.

Yep, Mario nailed it.

did my first change a couple months back.. Pretty simple, just time consuming with all of those torx screws, and getting the splash shield back into place afterward was a trick.

p.s. Once you get down there, Id be interested to know if you notice any oil residue buildup on the front of the engine. I was surprised when i pulled my shield off to see an obvious amount of oil down there...but it wasn't enough to notice a difference on the dip stick and it is still full after the change. Assume it was spillage from the factory fill (well, i hope that's all is was) .

blessings.

I can never do an oil change and keep things absolutely clean.
I started using puppy pads underneath the drain pan.
Now, I just use Walmart underpads. They're absorbent and they are better than newspaper. Probably cheaper than newspapers nowadays.

Good luck.

Bless me father for I have sinned - it has been 6 months since my last oil change.

But I’m getting my Maverick up on rhino ramps today to do my second oil change….

During my first change, I made this little bit/extender tool to easily remove & replace the 15 cover bolts. I firmly hand tighten my filter (18 or so ft/lbs) so I won’t need a removal tool unless I’v gotten weaker. Did use a tool to remove the OEM on first change though. Was probably around 20ft/lbs tight…

I just put the T30 bit in my battery-operated electric drill.

Back goes in first to grab that raised area on shield with tab sticking out off-center.

Then slight bend to get 2 front tabs in - holds itself up.
Ya - clean it off first!

Tech doing the CV axle, just held shield in place - and didn't do front tabs - just squished the front bumps, and stripped the screws attempting to flatten them.

Hope the tech did better on the axle related nuts & bolts. Not reassuring.

Never even thought of using that. Great idea. I usually just put a piece of cardboard under there, then the catch pan on top of it.

After my first oil change. I knew I had to find something small and powered to handle the 15 screws that hold on the splash pan in place.
I found this one at harbor freight for $10. Probably cheaper on Amazon.
The only thing I use it for is oil changes. I charge it the night before.
It worked great.

Use a cup to grip and turn the oil filter to remove it. Zero mess. If you don't have a cup, go to dollar tree and spend the money. You'll thank yourself.

I had the dealer do my first oil change, I have a lift in my detached garage and ordered the Rival shield for my FX4 XLT EB. So only had to take all the screws out the first time I changed my oil, put on the Rival after I completed the change and it has been a breeze ever since with the cover plates right where I need them for draining and filter change. I put an auto drain plug on with a drain tube attachment and it takes minutes to do the change now. The Rival shield is a great product, not cheap but well worth the investment.
