Just changed mine for the first time at 10,500 miles. Vehicle stated 25% oil life remaining, but I didn’t like the idea of letting it go past 10k since that’s what Ford recommends in the manual.

I do mostly highway /city driving. Hot Florida summer, but keeping it usually no higher than 70mph on the highway, and 45-50 around town.

it was quite easy to change the oil on ramps, far more accessible than most other vehicles I’ve changed oil on.

One thing of note: I will be changing my oil much earlier than 10k miles since the oil came out with a very dirty consistency.

The Owners Manual says the Hybrid can and often does go way over 10k miles, but you should never exceed the time limit of 1 year.

Remember the engine only runs anywhere from 40% to 80% of the time, so 10,500 miles is really a lot less.

Yeah I know it says that, but the way that oil looked coming out has me feeling quite different. I got the vehicle in March last year, so not quite a year old yet

Got my hybrid in April '22, and have already changed the oil twice, just to get the early metal particles out.

I recorded the DIY oil change in CarFax records.
Somebody on this forum mentioned DIY oil changes can be recorded on FordPass. That way, in case an engine warranty claim is made, I can show them the oil changes were done frequently enough.

Interesting they didn’t release the hybrid for delivery until November 2021..

Their post history talks about wanting to change dealers in December of 2021, so they probably meant April of 2022.

Just did my first oil change in my Hybrid at 1200 miles. I do a lot of freeway/highway driving so I'd say the engine was on for the majority of the miles. Probably much sooner than most will do it, but I prefer to get those initial break-in metals, lubricants, etc out before I start giving it more throttle.

Refilled with Mobil 1 0W-20 and used an FL-400S filter. The factory filter is puny in comparison. I was able to fill it with ~6qts of oil with the larger filter. I run Mobil 1 in my track car with great success and that car gets a ridiculous amount of abuse, so I figure it should be great for the Maverick, too!

Oil sample is in the mail on its way to Blackstone. Definitely unnecessary, but I find it interesting. It will be cool to see the difference between the two oils and watch the engine break-in. Never owned a new vehicle before!

What is the difference between the three oil filters discussed in this forum: Original, Ford Motorcraft FL910S and FL400S? Do you really think that Ford used the smaller size original filter to cut costs, (how much would it really save)?

The factory, when lowering the engine on to the engine bay mounts, finds that shorter oil filters don't get hit as much (clearance margin) during the motion of assembly.

Also, Ford engineers are OK with the smaller size since new engines have no sludge or loose carbon crud yet to clog the smaller filter media area. It's filtering oil in a very clean new engine.
Also saves a few pennies here and there, easier to ship & stock to be small.

FL400S is the same diameter as the shorter FL910S.

I recommend Fram Titanium FS3600, can't beat it for filtering performance, ..... or 2nd choice is Fram Endurance FE3600, or Fram Ultra XG3600, all over-sized (longer). Those specific models of Frams do very well in ISO 4548-12 and USCAR-36 testing.

If that was the original break-in oil that came with the vehicle, it would have that color at 10k. It is tinted a green color, but changes with use.

If it was original oil, the used oil at your next change won't look anything like oil change# 1.
