One of the best choices we've ever made. The two most important things behind our decision to get a maverick hybrid were fuel economy, and longevity. The 2.5 hybrid is one of the most reliable powertrains on sale, my uncle has one in his '12 escape with about 200k miles on it and it's been flawless.

The 2.0 has better towing, and top end performance, but worse fuel economy and higher long term repair costs. While the 2.0 is definitely one of the more reliable turbocharged motors, turbos are still a concern to me. Not to mention we've already seen quite a few 8 speeds on this forum failing or having issues. It's a gm transmission vs. the e-cvt which Ford worked on with Toyota.

Maybe the question I should’ve asked, assuming every model/color is in stock.

Would the eco owner buy hybrid or vice versa….
I have both EcoBlast and Hybrid Mavericks. The Eco is 2wd, I have an F150 to tow the boats and horses. I get right at 30MPG with the Eco vs 40MPG with the Hybrid. I would probably get better MPG if I drove the Eco more conservatively, but it is an absolute Blast to drive. When I was a kid my neighbor has a MiniCooper S and I was envious. The EcoBlast reminds me of a MiniCooper that starts, runs and doesn't leak oil. Fun, fun, Fun!

I have eco and hybrid on order and want to finalize build before production.

I drive around 20k miles per year (50 city/50 hwy) but also tow small boats/trailers a handful times a year (only a few miles) but still would but nice to have the 4k and power.

I’m trying to find the dealbreaker to help me lean on way or the other. Any input or insight would help.
Thanks!
I had a Honda Ridgeline and thought I'd drive it till the wheels fell off. Then along came the hybrid Mav, and I've never looked back.

No regrets on powertrain for me. The hybrid, given the lack of AWD, would not have been the right choice for me, even though that's really where the Maverick shines the most.

Thank you for this.
How many times have you towed something that the hybrid couldn’t?

My original plan was to get a camper trailer. Since I got the truck that plan got put on hold. It may be revisited at some point, but right now we have other fish to fry.

I have college aged kids who move annually, which is part of the reason I got a pickup in the first place. Instead of renting a uhaul truck, I can rent a decent size trailer to move their stuff around and it's a 4 hour drive from school to home. Much easier to do in my own truck than a uhaul. 2k lbs isn't really a lot and I wanted the flexibility to tow more when needed.

The other thing was that 4k towing adds a transmission cooler, bigger radiator and fan. This should help extend the life of the transmission since I knew that all the short hop driving I do would stress the trans. It wore out the trans on my old car.

AWD was not negotiable - I had to have that. There were a few times where my old FWD sedan simply couldn't go where I needed. Since I was already getting the AWD system, $800 for the towing package was a bargain considering all the mechanical stuff that's included.

I am going with Maverick XL Hybrid with 360 package and will be trading my 2018 F150 eco boost, 19.2 mpg for an F350 Lariat and Maverick XL Hybrid.

Own and operate orchard and vineyard and at times need to carry 330 gallon IBCs of juice to customers in San Diego plus bins of apples and grapes. …. With the F150 needed to break up the load into two. Not practical. Could tow a trailer … would be difficult to offload at customer with alley access in City.

So opted for F350 for big loads (gas 12-14 mpg) the hybrid Maverick to transfer kegs (35 plus mpg.) Will drive Maverick 60 percent and F350 40 percent.

So my take between the eco or hybrid is what your plans on using the truck for ….towing and snow …. AWD eco boost. Occasional hauling and commute then hybrid.

Color will only be limited trim level.

With an e30 tune and a heavy foot I was averaging 18mpg city in my Ecoobost.

The hybrid will more than double that driving it normally, and I was able to average around 33mpg city spirited driving with a Pedal Commander set very aggressively.

Nope. EB EK fills my need to be able to a boy scout trailer when needed without needing to own an F-150.

Love my hybrid Lariat. Very happy with my purchase, but I don't tow much, if anything. Had it since June 2022.

Currently, I have hybrid and never get less than 35 mpg, around 550 miles per tank. I had ecoboost. i mostly city drive and love hybrid, however ecoboost awd and can tow. Given the 50/50 driving, and towing, I recommend the ecoboost. On longer trips, it got 30+ and averaged high twenties. It was good in snow too. Both are great, based on your needs.

Still waiting on my truck and I have days where I wonder if I should have chosen hybrid but when I actually start thinking about it the worries go away.

Between the variety of hybrid issues that keep cropping up, the hybrid's reduced economy in winter, the lack of AWD and 2k tow limit and the general reduction in flexibility I'm confident that the Eco will suit me better.
I don't really drive that much either, maybe 15000 miles a year so the fuel costs aren't going to double... EPA comparison says it'll be $600/year more for the EB and I typically average better than EPA ratings.

I've wanted AWD for a long time after getting stuck in the rare snow around here. I might have over-spent in the tow package but i do eant that option if I need a trailer for my bikes. I havent tried the hybrid out but I think I prefer the extra 100hp though.

internally I’m saying; If I can avg around 30 eco with 4k/awd it’d check every box but the reality is; Im 76mph with adaptive cruise on the highway. Plus being in nyc often bring mpg down to low 20’s I’d guess. Not mention I live in rolling hills with occasional snow.

hybrid- more practical no doubt but how many times will I be wishing I had the more powerful motor and awd.

And is 360 co pilot assist worth getting the lariat package for? I’m thinking because of my long commute.

Cheers
After I totaled my hybrid I bought a new Ecoboost off a lot while waiting for my new hybrid Lariat to arrive. The Ecoboost is slightly faster but I still am looking forward to the hybrid to come in.
And, the 360 co pilot is worth it. Now that I'm used to it I depend really like it.

Between my hybrid and Ecoboost I find the EPA calculations spot on for the Ecoboost but I do much better with the hybrid so that $ will be bigger.
