Do you regret getting either the Hybrid or EcoBoost?

It’ll drive like an SUV regardless. The 4k trucks are a bit firmer than the hybrid.
The 2.5 is louder than the 2.0 and will regularly switch between the ICE and electric depending on how much the 12v is changed and how much gas you’re giving it.

How often do you actually tow a boat? Pickup rentals are cheap for a couple times/ year.

Hybrid doesn't get great gas mileage on highway but it REALLY shines in city traffic- you have to learn to brake a little earlier and gentler to take full advantage. I got 50mpg driving 20miles (plus return trip) on hilly country road (45mph speed limits) tonight.

Average after 6k miles since April 2023= 40mpg.
What are your hwy speeds? Will I still get 40+ on the highway if I’m going 75-78?

I have a Hybrid and its the only reason I even have a Maverick. If I was going with a non-hybrid vehicle it sure wouldn’t be a Maverick. Since I had two Santa Cruz trucks before I got the Maverick (during the long wait time for the Maverick). I am well briefed on the differences. The Santa Cruz is a better all around vehicle except for one thing. The HYBRID.

Depends on if you are on flat ground or hills. Flat highway without headwind I can see low to mid 40s add a headwind and it drops to upper 30s low 40s. Same with hills. All depending on your driving style. I had been driving hybrids for years before getting my Maverick so I already had the little tricks down.

No regret getting a hybrid. Atkinson engines drone, just the nature of the way they work in hybrids, since they try to keep them at the most efficient rpm at all times. Hybrids are fine on most ground in terms of performance and efficiency, but kind of suck on big hills. That's been the case for both hybrids I've owned. Once the battery drains it looses the electric boost and then it's just sitting there with a lower power ICE chugging away.

My only regret was getting a "built Ford tough" vehicle, otherwise it's great.

any guess what the eco would be at same speeds?
ECO is more efficient between 55-70mphs (unless the ground is dead flat), like most conventional ICE vehicles.

The hybrid I test rode had very little gas, not sure if it matters, but hardly got to use the electric mode. And when I punched it on the hwy it seemed louder and straining vs the eco. Maybe it was just that one or it didn’t warm up etc.

Do the hybrids motor kick on and off a lot? I felt it was constantly in and out of electric/gas mode.
Yes it will seem louder because it stays at peak torque under hard throttle.
Yes they constantly switch from ev- hybrid- engine depending on demand

No, see https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/hybrid-speed-vs-fuel-economy.43473/

Ive owned both a 4K AWD and Hybrid.
My driving is mainly city/some mixed hwy. MPG is nearly double with the hybrid. In my case I realized I’m not gonna tow or go off-road enough to make the AWD make sense. Can just rent when needed. Hybrid is the clear winner in my case.
I also have to say there is a certain charm to the hybrid that I just didn’t get with the AWD. Could just be the simple joy of maximizing my MPGs on my commute.

No not at all. At 75mph you’re gonna get low 30’s, in cool weather with no A/C on.

Above 65 and hybrid starts to lose its edge. Above 70 and it really starts to go downhill.

City driving is great, and the sweet spot is 30-45 mph. Just like any hybrid.

Ecoboost is good in the highway but city is very bad. Slow stop and go city mileage could be well under 20. Highway mileage can be as good as low 30’s.

As a hybrid owner, unless you want the best mpg between the two, just go for an ecoboost. I don't see any reason to get a hybrid unless you want better mpg, which is what I personally wanted. The ecoboost has more configurations and capabilities. That's really the long and short of it.

Once you decide you don't want hybrid mpg then it becomes a matter of do I want a turbo Maverick or something else altogether.

I have the EB AWD, and my son has the Hybrid.

I prefer the AWD independent suspension. I like having the towing capacity available, and I can live with the MPG. I drive about 12K miles per year. I live in California, where Premium gas is nearing $5.00/gallon. Yet, I still prefer the EB AWD.

Currently, my son drives 60 miles roundtrip in heavy northern California traffic. Thus, the Hybrid makes more sense for him. He likes the CVT and can live with the harsher rear suspension.

He loves his hybrid, and I love my EB AWD. You cannot go wrong with either one. My gut suggests you might like the Hybrid better.

My wife has a Plug-in Hybrid Escape she has put 40K miles on in two years. She is averaging 71 MPG and loves it.

Our immediate family has three Ford Hybrids and one Ford Plug-in Hybrid. We have not had any issues in a combined 140K miles with any of them. Thus, I would not use issues reported with the Maverick Hybrid as a deciding factor.

Even though I don’t tow often; the limitations bother me a little. And the sound and fight between E and gas might get annoying. Plus it seems like that eco is a great engine, fun even.

If my commute was more straight forward, not dealing with crazy I-95 or if I didn’t fish etc; it’d be hybrid no question. But my driving is very mixed. I have multiple vehicles; 1 for fishing and 1 for work. This allows me to consolidate to something practical until I maybe want something more fun.

thanks everyone for the insight. Much appreciated.
