Do you regret getting either the Hybrid or EcoBoost?

I bought the 4k fx4 lux Yada yada... I'm performance minded and i love the gearing the 4k gives you. I went from a gas super duty to the mav so gas mileage wasn't an issue. I did some mods and this thing shouldn't go like it does. (I have a 23 mach 1 im less impressed with)I've towed way more than I should have ( the 23 mach 1 on a car trailer).making sure tongue weight is correct and Brake controller is key. I love my ecoboost. I would never buy a hybrid. To many batteries that WILL fail eventually. My friend has a hybrid and wished he bought an eco after driving mine.

I have a hybrid and I’ve never once felt like it needed more power. Only thing I ever occasionally tow is a 500 lb trailer.

I have eco and hybrid on order and want to finalize build before production.

I drive around 20k miles per year (50 city/50 hwy) but also tow small boats/trailers a handful times a year (only a few miles) but still would but nice to have the 4k and power.

I’m trying to find the dealbreaker to help me lean on way or the other. Any input or insight would help.

I absolutely LOVE my 23 Hybrid. Avg 42mpg on the street and IF I drive it right, can get just over 50 in the highway. No complaints thusfar ... Except for the seatbelt indicator when you first start it up ... Gotta be a way to turn it off, right?

Do the math and figure out what you're really saving a year. That will help you decide.

For me at 10,000 miles a year and gas prices by nme hybrid would only save me about $450 a year.
- Three years to pay down the premium and break even
- The additional wait when I ordered in July
- The additional issues that plague some hybrid owners
- Inability to test drive a hybrid, only 1 dealer had one and wouldn't let you test drive it unless you were serious about paying a premium

All that pushed me Eco and I don't regret it 1 bit. Lovely vehicle.

This is all true, but it’s also abstract. what if five years from now gas is 25% more expensive? The hybrid will likely have a higher resale value.

I love my Ecoboost! I plan on keeping it 100K, so I don't want the complexities of two powertrains and computers. When things start going wrong, and they will, the cost will be out of sight. Simplicity wins for me over FE, the only advantage of the hybrid.

2 hybrids here. 1 will be 25k a year the other maybe 10k a year. I will tow a jon boat with one 500mile round trips.

Depending on your boat and trailer maybe is your deciding factor.

My 24 xlt hybrid is sch build 3/11. I also want to pull a 14 foo jon boat with 8 hp johnson. Typical gear for light tackle fishing, trolling motor and battery. I’m hoping it will handle it ok.

Oddly I edited that post to include re-evaluating in a few years before you posted this. For now I'm happy missing the gas savings and avoiding possible issues. That could change. But hybrid availability could also go up a lot in the next few years and cause it to be an even trade used for used. Too many variables to predict . The way our current economy works, if gas engines become the minority, they'll start carrying a premium too.

Best we all can do is make decisions based on what info we have. Then adjust depending on what happens. OP asked for our experiences and possible regret, so I listed mine. Not really trying to debate better or worse decisions. Zero regrets on an XL with X-Plan Eco.

I have read other threads before posting this question but found inconsistencies with the mpg of the eco boost. So for the gent that said “keep it simple”; I’d argue to say the eco boost with 4k would be the simplest and check all the boxes. ESP if it truly gets 30+\- mpg. That’s well above average. Also seems to be a better powerplant that’s more capable/fun. But if it the real world mpg is low 20’s with mixed city driving then it’s a different story with a clear winner. But again; if it’s not a huge difference then it makes my choice more difficult. I’m not interested in making mpg records. I’m usually rushing to work, running around job sites etc.

I’m also trying to determine if people’s hybrid bias come from being hybrid truthers vs liking the actual truck being hybrid.

I could be way off but my sense is the hybrid is a very practical car like platform with truck capabilities and the eco 4k is a truck with car like behavior.

And regarding resale; my opinion- there will be more demand later for the some of the last year of gas engines, esp in a compact truck. Just like they went away with manual, now those are in high demand for sports cars and fetching a premium. But who knows and frankly who cares. You buy to enjoy today not tomorrow.

If I was much older than my 63 years now and never planned on towing anything I would get a hybrid,but,if I planned on towing something,even a cpl times a year I would get the ecoboost.most of my toys are over 2000lbs.

Very happy with my '24 EcoBoost. Was concerned at first about long wait time for hybrid then later about some of the issues owners were having.

At the end of the day, it's a personal choice. For me, the EcoBoost was the right choice.

Very true. At the end of the day I always figure you should just but the vehicle that makes sense for you in the moment -- one you're going to enjoy, one that does what you need 95% of the time, etc. It's like arguing "what a better value if I have $20K to spend, an SUV or a Miata?" Price, MPG, space, safety, reliability, handling, and all that really define the "right" choice to the individual buyer.
