I have eco and hybrid on order and want to finalize build before production.

I drive around 20k miles per year (50 city/50 hwy) but also tow small boats/trailers a handful times a year (only a few miles) but still would but nice to have the 4k and power.

I’m trying to find the dealbreaker to help me lean on way or the other. Any input or insight would help.
Thanks!

2 hybrids here. 1 will be 25k a year the other maybe 10k a year. I will tow a jon boat with one 500mile round trips.

Depending on your boat and trailer maybe is your deciding factor.

I got the EB because of the early issues the Hybrids had, which I experienced with an Escape Hybrid, but also because it was the only AWD option. It's no secret if they offered the Hybrid for the "do all" Maverick (Fx4, Tremor, AWD's) that it would be the chosen one.

At least now they have worked out the crankshaft issues with the production line on the 2.5L's but the battery issues are still hit and miss for a lot of owners. You either get it or you don't. There are a lot of variables involved... but 20k miles a year should keep you in the green fairly easily.

I'd say unless you need the 4k tow, or the AWD, then why not go with a Hybrid? Is there any reason you need an AWD of 4WD truck? Is what you are towing over 2,000 pounds? If not, then the extra 10-20 MPG average is an obvious choice (again, variable dependant on your driving and location). That said, the Maverick in general is still very good with the EB's in terms of MPG's.

In terms of "power", I promise your butt dyno won't notice the difference. The question should be if you need the extra 2k towing capacity or not - unless you plan on modding and specifically want the ICE engine for that reason.

internally I’m saying; If I can avg around 30 eco with 4k/awd it’d check every box but the reality is; Im 76mph with adaptive cruise on the highway. Plus being in nyc often bring mpg down to low 20’s I’d guess. Not mention I live in rolling hills with occasional snow.

hybrid- more practical no doubt but how many times will I be wishing I had the more powerful motor and awd.

And is 360 co pilot assist worth getting the lariat package for? I’m thinking because of my long commute.

Cheers

I personally love the CP360. It was one reason why I wanted the Lariat with it because I had it in the Escape. I feel like even if you rarely use it, once you experience having one it's pretty hard to not want it again. But, personally, I would never use it in congested areas one or two passing vehicles around and plenty of space and even still I set mine to the minimal amount of correction.

I've never exceeded MPG estimates personally. I've always been a couple digits below or right on the line. Conditions are nowhere near perfect for me to exceed window sticker estimates where I live. Whatever your currently driving, go back and look at the estimates and compare them with what you are actually getting, then you can make a safe estimate on the Maverick.

I went with a hybrid for a few reasons. I had already been driving a hybrid for years and have become accustomed to the fuel mileage and costs to run. I also don't have anything I tow currently and if I needed a tow rig then I would get something with more than a 4k tow rating. I live in Central Texas so snow is not a worry except on the rare trip up north. Even then I have made due without AWD in the snow in the past and don't see why this would be any different.

No regrets on getting the Eco. Best decision I could have made. Peppy engine, only way to get AWD which is the only way to get independent rear suspension and only way to get the FX/4 package which was an absolute steal for 800 bucks. I love black wheels and no way spending that crazy amount of money on BAP. All this for 30K, imagine that? :ROFLMAO:

Oh, only drive around 5K max a year so gas mileage is not as important to me as it is to others that drive much more.

If you NEED AWD, 4k towing or want to mod for power - eco
As far as power, it seems some people think the Hybrid power drops off as speed increases (perception of transmission sound) but testing shows the opposite. Here's 2 shots of a test fwd eco vs fwd hybrid, note the hybrid gains in the top end...

Do you want to modify the truck or keep it stock?
Running high 12s is easily obtained with the Ecoboost.
Check out @Fast Mavericks

Driving in NYC and in the rolling hills your fuel efficiency with the hybrid will be about double that of the Ecoboost.
You’ll also want to run 93 with the EcoBoost to optimize power and efficiency.

The hybrid I test rode had very little gas, not sure if it matters, but hardly got to use the electric mode. And when I punched it on the hwy it seemed louder and straining vs the eco. Maybe it was just that one or it didn’t warm up etc.

Do the hybrids motor kick on and off a lot? I felt it was constantly in and out of electric/gas mode.

How often do you actually tow a boat? Pickup rentals are cheap for a couple times/ year.

Hybrid doesn't get great gas mileage on highway but it REALLY shines in city traffic- you have to learn to brake a little earlier and gentler to take full advantage. I got 50mpg driving 20miles (plus return trip) on hilly country road (45mph speed limits) tonight.

Average after 6k miles since April 2023= 40mpg.

Motor shuts off as often as possible. Yes they can get pretty noisy when cold or when lots of power is needed. But for general driving I barely notice when it's on or off, except I have the dash set to show it.

does the fx4 option make the ride more aggressive? Besides size/mpg, the main reason I like these are because their suv like feel. Vs my last Tacoma off road that wasn’t the smoothest. I have no plans of taking it off road but would consider adding for resale assuming it didn’t make it ride rough.
