Oil change for the hybrid is super simple. Once the shield is removed, the filter and drain plug are easily accessed. I added a Fumoto valve drain plug to make it even easier.

I did the same, I have them on all my vehicles.

Why would you want to change your own oil in a new vehicle? My Ford Quick Lane charges less than I would pay for 6 qts of oil & filter. They also do multipoint inspection. Changing your own oil you must set up & drive onto ramps, then crawl under it & then you have to find a place to dispose of used oil & cleanup your tools. I can understand now trusting the corner quicky lube, but you should trust your Ford dealer.
From my experience the Ford Quick Lanes are no better than the corner quicky lube. For a few years I quit doing my own oil changes since Quick Lane was actually cheaper with a free change after 4, but that's no longer the case. Between cost and after all of the issues I had between 2 Quick Lanes, I now have gone back to doing my own changes. Issues I had (with an Escape and Flex) were:
- Stripping out the plastic nut inserts when tightening down the screws for the under-engine cover.
- Leaving out the screws for the under-engine cover even when the inserts weren't stripped.
- Overfilling and underfilling the oil.
- Overtightened and under tightened drain plugs and oil filters, sometimes with slow drips.
- Broken battery cover after they checked the battery.
- Trying to sell me a new battery even when the failing one was under full warranty.
- Insisting that they performed a tire rotation even when they didn't.

My feeling is that many people are happy with their service because they don't actually check the work that was done. I understand that people don't want to crawl under the vehicle, but I would bet most don't even check the oil after they had it changed. The covers also hide slow drips since they don't hit the ground. Unfortunately the people working at the Ford Quick Lanes are low paid laborers and most don't care about their work quality. They certainly don't care about my vehicle like I do.

I do check my oil after a change, only once did I find it about a quart overfilled, never underfilled. I am now to the point that I have sold most of my old cars because I no longer have the ability to work on them, I still wouldn't change the oil myself on a new vehicle even if I could.

I have a step grand son who does oil changes at a Honda dealership and I guarantee you do not want this kid, or his Ford doppelgänger touching your car. And yea they use whatever oil is handy, at a Honda dealer that doesn't mean much but at a Ford dealer you might be getting 15-40 diesel oil.

That is hilarious, and kinda sad.

Lots of stories about what goes on at lube facilities like that. Best to check everything over that any commercial facility does. Might as well do it yourself then though! If possible.

My biggest peeve with the quick lube places is they are NOTORIOUS for removing splash shields and engine shields and not replacing them. Go to any quick lube facility and look in their dumpster and you'll see boatloads of them. It's quantity and not quality and that's not even accounting for the amount of times they've ruined vehicles by draining trans fluid and overfilling oil, etc.

I use the Express Lube at the dealership. They have some long-termers there who know what they are doing (and even geeked out when I mentioned maybe bringing in my Saturn) and can get it done a lot quicker than I can.

They do more than lube. But dude is happy working on cars. I don't begrudge him.

Ford only uses motorcraft blend if you want something else you have to do it yourself or pay elsewhere
