  1. Did the first oil change today. Mileage 4258 miles

Here is ChatGPT's response (I'm too lazy to provide engineering support here, so ChatGPT it is). That is a pretty good A.I. tool, as this shows: Cranking an engine without starting it, in the context of hydrodynamic, boundary, and mixed-regime tribology in the main bearings and valve train...
  2. Did the first oil change today. Mileage 4258 miles

Come back and discuss it when you have a Mechanical Engineering degree and understand hydrodynamic, boundary and mixed-regime tribology in the main bearings and valve train, and positive displacement oil pumps. You can see how it's a bit complicated to explain.
  3. Did the first oil change today. Mileage 4258 miles

That method has been discredited. The engine cranks, internal bearings move, rings move over the bores, regardless of whether you slow-crank or just start the thing up. Useless method. Best to at least partially-fill the oil filter before putting a new one on.
  4. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

You're way off. First of all, it is a positive displacement oil pump, which produces the same volume of oil flow per turn of the pump. There is no extra mass flow rate using any oil filter, it's all the same. ..... "Flow and cooling" is not a factor in this context and your argument has...
  5. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

Great post! Yes, my own experience a few years ago with a '15 Ford C-Max Hybrid, which has a similar hybrid set-up as our Maverick or a current Ford Escape Hybrid or a Prius, was that the oil temperature is just very slow to go up, causing a "water-stewing" effect over quite a distance, made...
  6. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

Search on Whip City Wrencher on youtube, or search into bobistheoilguy for quite a few people who enjoy cutting oil filters open to see Build Quality. It's enough to be a good enough sample size for quality estimations. Not perfect. Wix standard ones (and NapaGold clones) are generally OK...
  7. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

I think the "Hybrid" oils (Mobil1, Valvoline, and now Amsoil has one) are really only good for when you short-trip a lot or a lot of very cold weather driving. My '15 Ford C-Max hybrid I had would refuse to really warm up, obviously since the engine kept shutting down as I drove. I even got...
  8. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

"PF" meaning the Project Farm guy on youtube? Those tests are very limited in what they can tell you. Trust me, it takes a lot of real engineering tests (i.e., dexos1, MB 229.71, VW 508, SP/GF6A, DOZENS of tests inside each spec of all kinds in the engineering world) to prove a motor oil is...
  9. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

What tests? ISO 4548-12 shows filtering performance is mediocre, about average. 99%@30microns Can you name one real test?
  10. Use new Hybrid-specific 0w-20 oil? (And new oil filter is available)

Just to follow up, turns out, this month, Amsoil came out with a Hybrid-specific motor oil too. They explain what the difference is better than I did above: https://amsoilcontent.com/ams/lit/databulletins/he_g3830.pdf
  11. VIDEO: The Right Oil and Change Interval for 2.0 EcoBoost

6 months or 7,500 mile oil changes on the Ecoboost Mavs probably works best, which is actually about what GM has gone to on all their many DI-turbo engines. Or, another method that is sound, is to change oil when the Oil Life Monitor gets to 25% (not down to zero). I like this method best...
  12. Blackstone Oil Analysis on first Hybrid Oil Change - 1,200mi

Your oil analysis is very normal for those conditions & break-in miles. I've seen a lot of these over the years, and they all look about like that. No problems with your engine. Extra metals & silicone sealant gets loose in there, nice to get it out as soon as possible. As for comparisons to...
  13. Rear FX4 Differential Fluid

I've used RTV & Teflon Tape (not paste) over the years. I didn't know Teflon Paste existed. This does look decent: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/PTX7651187 Any would work. With a new plug, none needed, although I'd probably still use a small amount. If smearing something on those...
  14. Rear FX4 Differential Fluid

I'd definitely stick to the Motorcraft 75W Disconnect fluid here, since there are clutch packs that require very specific frictional fluid properties to prevent chatter. Drain, and also the Fill plugs, are very cheap at dealerships, and they likely have them in stock. Order online or give the...
  15. Rear FX4 Differential Fluid

(((( EDIT: I think I'm wrong about it being a Yield Tightening bolt. Looks like it just has a plug that comes with it's own sealer already painted on the thread, so get two cheap Ford-brand plugs for $6 with new sealant coated on there. )))) Engineers decided there was too much vibration on...
  16. Transmission fluid type?

Mercon LV is a little thicker than Mercon ULV, about the only difference. LV can be used. Amsoil has tried their LV-equivalent-viscosity ATF fluid in the Mav's 8F35, and, not surprisingly it works fine. reference...
  17. Oil change from dipstick?

Yes. It's a good idea. You don't have to change the original factory oil filter out until around 10k miles or so. (I did change the oil filter on mine very early, only because I like crawling under cars and using a superior, over-sized, oil filter.) Oil in a new-ish engine does have elevated...
  18. 1st oil change, competed at Ford Dealership and I have a question . . .

Manual says to change in 1 year or when the Oil Change Reminder warning comes on, whichever occurs first. Actually, the engine's computer "should" keep track of time, so it respects 1 year too. As for changing the oil early for it's first time, yes, you probably should, but the manual doesn't...
  19. First Oil Change on Hybrid Maverick XLT -- my notes / tips

The factory, when lowering the engine on to the engine bay mounts, finds that shorter oil filters don't get hit as much (clearance margin) during the motion of assembly. Also, Ford engineers are OK with the smaller size since new engines have no sludge or loose carbon crud yet to clog the...
  20. 1st oil change, competed at Ford Dealership and I have a question . . .

Soot (carbon particles) accumulation in the engine oil is a problem with Ecoboost and other brand Direct Injection DI engines. https://www.sae.org/publications/technical-papers/content/2019-01-0301/ GM's OLM won't let DI engines go over 7,500 miles or 1-year, maybe more frequent if it senses...
