when I got my license at 16, I had a 98 Ford Ranger with a 6' bed and 5 spd 2.3l i4. I traded it 2 years later for a 2018 Ford Fiesta because I started to have dangerous problems like my brakes randomly seizing on the road and leaving me stranded until they cooled down. my underbody was so rusted that the gas tank was holding on by a thread. I like my Fiesta as a budget box but now i'm getting a little tired of having a small car for a big guy (6'4" and 300+lbs) and started looking between older suvs and a new Escape or Ecosport till I heard from the dealer that they were going to discontinue the Ecosport like they did the Fiesta in 2019.

Looked at the Maverick because it was cheaper than the Escape and I could spec it out decently for the same amount with more practical use with the bed. I miss the bed of my ranger because I figured I wouldn't need it anymore but i've been needing the space cause i've been trying to fit big things in the Fiesta or hauling things or people around is a challenge in a car with a 800lb payload and basically no backseat. needed to move my motorcycle from my parent's house and had to ask my buddy if I could borrow his truck with the promise of filling the gas tank. My grandparents are in the process of bringing items over because they are having a house built and deciding what to keep or get rid of.

I was looking at a classic F1, luckily the Maverick came along and appealed to my sensible side

Hyundai Tucson and the Rav4 but the Mav has basically the same seating for less money, more mpg, and has a bed. Also the Ford dealer does MSRP & Xplan while the Hyundai dealer marked everything up by 10k yes really.

We were looking at a Mazda CX-30, a Hyundai Kona and a Subaru Crosstrek. Needed an AWD vehicle that could get my wife to/from work No Matter What that didn't cost a fortune and could handle the occasional Home Depot excursion. Then we looked at a Hyundai Santa Cruz and it had its positives, but I hated the gas mileage and price for the bigger engine. She LOVED the Maverick right off the bat, and I was a lot happier with the gas situation and the price; I actually would have gotten the CX-30 but she's going to be the one driving the vehicle 80% of the time in a couple of months, so we went with the Mav.

If mileage was the issue, why didn't you hold out for the hybrid?

New: 2022 Nissan Frontier
Used: 2016 Chevy Colorado

Waited (and waited) for Nissan to release the new Frontier to see what their price point was going to be. Finally gave up and ordered the Maverick in September.

Before I heard about the Maverick, I was looking late 90s pickups as I had the cash around. Found plenty with low milage but not any that were in good enough shape.

I linked my phone, got the pass points, unlinked my phone. Still listening to AM/FM. I am 1000 miles in and still find myself using mirrors and ignoring the backup camera. I'm 37 and find a large screen really unnecessary. I wish it was optional.

Aside from stuff I don't use, I'm enjoying the truck.

I was looking at the Chevy Colorado and the ranger but the back seat width was smaller then my Wrangler jku (got 3 teenage daughters). Mav came out and I went to the dealer with a tape measure. Middle back seat was longer by 1.5 inches.

Before I saw a random YouTube video of the Maverick on June 10th, only 2 days after the official reveal, I was going to get an suv when my current car died. I was looking at a Audi Q5 or Kia Telluride.

Then this little truck came to me as if Ford saw me at Home Depot loading bags mulch into my cars trunk(it would only take me 3 trips to get the 12 bags I usually need) and made a truck for me. Glad the timing worked out and I will now save well over $20k and get a truck!

Long story short. What were you originally planning on buying before the Mav was presented to you on a silver platter?
Such a great question & talk about a reverse for me. I was actually looking at picking up a Raptor! I work from a home office, my outdoor activities while they include both fishing & hunting, the places I go to are easily accessible, I do need a truck bed often, but of course if I were to get a Raptor, it would have had to have been lifted with a big old set of wheels/tires making it not as easy to use. My wife looked at me & said honey, are you sure this is just not a mid-life crisis, I tried not to laugh & agree with her, but she was so right LOL. Looking forward to my Maverick Lariat & the extra $50-$60K in my bank account!

Santa Cruz. I loved the concept. But as spy photos started showing that it was just a Tucson with a small bed, I became less and less interested.

In the interim before the Maverick spy photos were hitting the news, I was considering a 2021 or 22 F-150. But by the time I get it equipped with all the things I want, it pushes $60K! And I really want to downsize. I just don't need a big truck anymore. And I despise the current Ranger. But I have bloviated on that around here enough.

I've also considered the '22 Frontier. I like it a lot. Looks so much better than the Titan.

But Maverick just checks off nearly every box for me. I just wish they had something just a little bit more upmarket than Lariat trim. An ST, Sport, Tremor, Limited, Raptor, something a little better would be nice. But I can hang!
I was looking at a Chev pickup.

2022 Nissan Frontier Pro4X…MSRP $41,460 sitting on lot right where I parked it Saturday afternoon.

I still have a June unscheduled hybrid order with MSRP of $25,000.

I could text my cousin now and pick the frontier up in a couple hours or continue the wait… what y’all thinking?
