I guess you could call this plan B.
I don't have my order in. They won't talk to me until Aug. 16th (if all goes right). That means I probably won't get "a" truck until sometime in '23 - if it reflects the same schedule that you guys are getting.
So, reading lots of posts both here and on FB Maverick Mafia about the bed being 'eh small. i.e. can't haul an m/c. Not a problem, I have a small aluminum trailer.
I also haven't seen a Maverick in real life yet but when talking with a salesman he showed me a Bronco Sport. He said the cab of the sport and Maverick are the same physical size. (really, the whole interior minus the sport's cargo area behind the back seat).
So, I started thinking about how much I would really use the p/u bed. Really, not so much.
The base Sport is rated at 1,500lbs. towing. This is good.
There are Bronco Sports scattered around here and there for sale coming in at $28900 after everything except taxes.
They might cost more than a base hybrid but at least I haven't seen any price gouging. Plus, it's a 4wd that still gets 25 city / 28 highway, on paper. I have a friend that bought one and he is getting 30+.
So, Pros/Cons/WTF's/Other ideas are all welcome.

I work from home, wife is hybrid (in office 2 days a week) and we've shared a single car for 6yrs. Our jetta is in great condition with only 60k miles. We also have two e-bikes with 60+ mile range and my FIL is trying to give us back the car I gave him 6yrs ago ('09 hyundai accent, in perfect running condition) because he just inherited a newer vehicle. I've told him to sell it. We really have no need for another car, so the backup plan is nothing. We are scheduled for build on March 21st.

I'll keep my 01 Ranger, has 12k on a reman engine and runs and drives like new. The only reason to trade it off is the 17 MPG. Looking closely at the Camry hybrids, 53 MPG and still can be had under 30k.

I have 2 perfectly suitable vehicles with low miles that are paid for. I can do any of my hobbies or use for dump runs, towing trailer, hauling my dirt bikes etc. and road trips in comfort with decent mileage. My reasoning on getting a Maverick was I didn't like the current generation Ranger and wanted something lower to get in and out of then our F-150 and better mileage was a plus. We're retired and don't drive much as it is. Decided to put step rails on the F-150 last year which really negated the higher vehicle access issues. I also stumbled upon a new easy loading motorcycle ramp that solves the other complaint I had about the F-150. Coincidentally but separately my wife's horse hobby has expanded greatly resulting in competition for using it.

I had also been planning to buy an aluminum utility trailer for general purposes including hauling motorcycles and it is easily towed behind my Grand Cherokee when truck is not available. So really, if the Maverick never comes in, I'm fine with it. Lately I have also started paying attention to the new Ranger coming and casually watching for confirmation of features and trim levels and pricing- same as I was doing this time last year watching Maverick. The new one looks better styling wise and will come in Supercab with 6 ft bed configuration that I always preferred over Maverick crew cab anyways. I also prefer body on frame and longitudinal mounted engine too and only considered Maverick after confirming the 2.0 I4 with AWD was the affordable option for me @ $26,505 speced the way I wanted it. Really still don't like the Front end styling of the Mav, or the shorter bed or the goofy rotary shifter knob but like overall functionality enough to order one.

The longer it takes for my ordered Maverick to become reality, I'll probably start casually looking for customer rejected units I could live with and keep waiting on new ranger release. I did build and price for a basic Ranger I would want and it was less than $3k more than my Maverick order. I know it will be a little more expensive for the brand new model, but if that becomes available before my Maverick I would likely go that way and be perfectly happy

So, as it sits my order is confirmed but that is all - I am already thinking it is going to be close to six months so I am hopeful. I have confidence in the dealer where my order went through but, I have also started looking around for other vehicles - it is a virtual desert out there almost to the point of frustration. I got lucky this past summer when I walked onto a Subaru lot and drove off in a new Crosstrek which is now the woman's car. I made a hasty decision and sold my 2020 Civic to buy a Mav which leaves me my venerabe '06 F-150 until I can get the Maverick. I started looking at other choices and they are not available either - Toyota Tacoma TRD, Rav4 TRD, Nissan Frontier. Everything is pre-sold if I find one. Just curious what your back up plan is if you can't get a Maverick right now?
Why did you have to sell your civic first?

id just keep driving my rio i guess. Theres no real mav comp. so i either wait for this one that ive ordered… or wait for… another mav? Haha

I knew going in it was going to be a long wait getting into this order and after the Ford dealer memo today I more than likely will be in for a 2023 re order. Oh well, I have my loaded 2016 Escape eco boost with only 27k miles on it and live 5 miles from work so I'll just keep driving it and be happy.

Likely a Tacoma SR5. Maybe 5k more, but too much "Truck" I checked out the Santa Cruz. Its a SUV with a smaller bed than the Mav. A nice vehicle but way more of a SUV. Price is close to the Tacoma.
So, patient. The Mav will be the teenagers car. Lucky him

Although I have bought nothing but Fords for the last 40 years (Ford Retiree), if Ford pushes me to 2023 model and doesn't honor the invoice price they gave me for the 2022, i doubt that I will ever buy another Ford.

And the sad but true truth here, is that ford just doesn’t care about you or what you buy or drive.

If 2023 Santa Cruz gets some changes like the turbo offered in base SE trim (like they have in Canada) without dealer add-on fees, I'd probably go with that. Ditto if they change the base engine from the 2.5 to the 1.6T Hybrid to match the Maverick.

I'm also curious to see pricing and ease of ingress/egress on the new 2023 Ranger. If its easy to get in and out of like the Maverick, I might go that route.

Alternatively, I might go crossover and word is the Bronco Sport may offer the hybrid that's in the Escape/Maverick, and will stay tuned to watch the new Dodge Hornet which is supposed to come with an inline 6-cylinder which sounds neat assuming that its a lower budget version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale.

Still driving my 2019 Honda Ridgeline. Waiting to see if MY 2023 Maverick has a Rattler/Tremor version. I like the Mav, but want more height and off-road capability. I know others have lifted their trucks and added bigger tires, but I would prefer a Ford tuned Mav.
