Picked my 2.0 awd with 4k towing maverick from a dealer yesterday about 2.5 hours away. Ran in eco mode most of the way back going 79 mph. Was hoping to hit that 30mpg, but might have been going too fast for that

I still find it funny that you ask for real-world mpg and everyone still sends photos of the mpg from the dash estimate.
I believe MotorTrend does a cool real-world mpg test where they strap a special device on the vehicle that literally gives the vehicle a controlled volume of fuel and accurately allows for an mpg number on a mixed test. (almost like an external fuel tank)
Maybe they will do the Maverick soon.

Does the Eco mode (non FX4) help the mileage much?

Jon
My wife's Explorer, gets much better MPG in eco mode than normal and still has plenty of get up and go. Not sure how that will relate to the 2.0 Mav. but a buddy has the F-150 and says the same. Would be nice to see a test run in each mode to see the difference. I plan on doing that with my Hybrid when I get it.

That won't help you while going 79mph on the highway. It controls throttle input so you don't take off hard in stop and go. that is where the gains come from.

Not empirical by any means, but we picked up our FX4, 4K Tow, Lariat on Saturday and at 340 miles in we're at 30.9mpg. 210 of that is highway from 55-75mph, the rest is city and some park roads at 25-40mph. No eco or sport mode on this guy, so it's just 'normal'. I'm impressed, and hope this is how it continues to perform.

Sorry, but you seem so evasive about doing a simple manual calculation. You make it seem like it's some extremely labor intensive exercise that you "shouldn't have to do". The most obvious theory is that their is something wrong with the always unreliable MPG gauge. For the love of God man, do a simple manual calculation.

Second fill up. 15.808 gallons 412.5 miles. About an even split between urban, suburban, rural and highway driving. Mainly in regular drive mode but with some ECO mode on the highway. Forgot to figure average speed. The vehicle computer said 28.2 MPG, I calculated 27.5 MPG

Some great numbers here, really impressed. Was 100% on board with getting a hybrid, but with the the reality of actually getting one being nil, and the fact that these mpgs are even better than my Nissan, the turbo might be the way to go.

Do you know if there is a way to set the drive mode to Eco full time? Or did you need to change it every time you drive it? Thx

I'd love to see the end of that 2nd tank, but it's good to see that the truck even pretends to get 36+ mpg.
My subaru pretends to get 38 sometimes until I've driven about 15 miles.
My Forester gets mid-high 30s in real trips on country roads. Doesn't have to fake it :p

My limited time in a not-broken in AWD fx4 model was good for mid 20s in mixed driving, and I drive softer than granny.

XLT,FX4, 4K.
after filling tank and drivin a 600km round trip and filling again I did the math and was getting 8.8 L/100km.
That's roughly 27 MPG.
Truck had about a 800 lbs in total carry weight

Nice
I find it disappointing that a few hybrid owners question Eco MPG’ s with a passion. My thought is that each buyer gets what’s best for their needs. If I lived in a city or in better climate I would have seriously considered that option but I don’t so I didn’t. I hope the hybrids get 50 mpg and everyone that gets one loves it. I just got my Maverick today with the options that I wanted and it’s early but so far all of my expectations have been exceeded. For me, it’s replacing an 07 V8 Mountaineer so getting 25 MPG will double what I had. I truly hope that every Maverick owner is as thrilled as I am with my purchase. My wife had no idea what I was buying and she has a loaded titanium Edge. After a thorough inspection and a short drive she gave me two thumbs up and said it looks great and is very “peppy”.
I got a ton of double takes at a few stops.

It needs to be set every time, it defaults to Normal upon startup.

A bit over 700 miles on my 2.0 AWD Lariat. So far the dash says an average of 27.9 mpg. That's with premium fuel and mostly city and rural hwy driving. I haven't tried to calculate it myself yet.
