FWIW I'm coming from a mid-90's Volvo station wagon and find the Maverick overall visibility/situational awareness to be piss poor.

It seems engineers have traded being able to see around you for sensors and cameras.

Much harder to meet safety standards with skinny A C pillars and lots of glass.

Subarus have continued to provide good viz (esp. Forester) and high ratings, though. If they had offered a Forester or Outback with AWD and a Rav4 hybrid engine (or equivalent) - that'd be in our driveway vs our Sienna Woodland and soon to be Mav XL.

I'm coming from a little Lexus CT and like the visibility. The only part I don't like about visibility is the small review mirror.
But as others have said, you don't have too many options, other than:
- Set side mirror angles so the bottom inside corner just lines up with your door handle to maximize outside view.
- Bigger rear view mirror overlay.
- Remove headrests if not used.
- Jack up the seat.

I've done that. Head pressed to the roof... Couldn't tell if I was about to hit a curb on a turn. :p

This comes across as strange to me, as I test drove a Maverick and found the visibility to be quite good, probably as good as either of my existing vehicles, one a modern 2010s era sedan and the other a few year old Kia SUV. I'm not sure what the visibility is really being compared against in all cases here, but it certainly isn't bad by any strictly objective metric. I actually found it relatively easier to see out of than most other cars I've driven lately, all things considered.

I find the side and rear visibility is terrible on my 23 Maverick XLT. I bought “off the floor”, and some of the niceties weren’t included. Can I get any of the, at least, side collision warning system to add after the fact, third party? And would it require forscan programming? Thanks for any guidance.
It could be possible if you can source all the parts. Maybe from a wrecked Maverick?
It will definitely need to be programmed. It might not be worth the time, effort, or money though.

I think Ford should have made the Co-Pilot 360 standard on all trims and just charged for it.
If not the whole Co-Pilot 360 package then at least the BLIS and cross traffic alert as a minimum. These should be standard on any new car in 2023.

Hopefully you didn't pay over MSRP for it.

Sometimes I am shocked at the complaints about these little trucks.
What did you drive before, a convertible Prius? Maybe, slow down a little and adjust your mirrors correctly. I have driven a lot of different vehicles over the last 45 years and the Maverick is one of the best for visibility. Your expectations need some work.

Simple. Order one the way you want it. Did you test drive? Pretty common sense stuff. It’s a vehicle and has safety concerns that differ for drivers.

Yes the rear view is constricted. The extra row of seats and factory tint just adds.
I position my mirrors so the truck is just barely seen. Also added Blindspot mini mirrors. Had these on my Rangers...

As far as I can tell, all modern cars have terrible rear visibility. (and really, terrible visibility in general) This is usually attributed to safety regulations. The rear visibility is lost while adding rollover protection, and much of the front visibility is lost due to the same, and due to stashing airbags in all the pillars. Try driving a 1998 F150. It's got far better visibility than anything out there.
