I apologize for this post. My son had the truck for a couple of days and after he heard me complaining for the "RUST" he confess to me that he had it parked under a flamboyan tree for two straight nights. It seem that this tree has some kind of chemical in their leaf that made my hood look as it was all rusted. It took me 4 hours to clean that stuff but happily is back to normal. Thank you to all Maverick owners that commented to help.

It's does form an oxide layer just like carbon steel. So yes aluminum does rust. It just doesn't turn orange/brown but a white color
No aluminum does not "rust", it corrodes, just as steel/iron corrode but only ferrous metals result in rust, aluminum creates oxide, as you said, from oxidization which is a component of corrosion in both metal families. Now rust also applies to some reddish/yellow decolorization that also occurs on some plants, due to a fungal process. Hopefully our Mavericks can with stand fungus.

My XLT 2022 Maverick with 12,500 miles in odometer already have a rusty hood. How is that possible when it sleeps indoor? I am taking it to the dealer because is under factory warranty. But why what kind of a lousy paint job this cars come with?
Yup. Extremely disappointed with it. We probably wont have most of these last a decade at this rate but we'll see.

I have rust on my truck. @Ford Motor Company
Here are some pics (sorry about the rain. Nothing I can do)
And, before anyone say anything about rock chips, here’s the exact same style “rock chip” from the door frame, inside the drivers door. Sure the truck has 30k on it now, but I’ve never had paint chip like this before. I have paint chips on the front of the truck, the sides of the truck and the rear. It sucks.
I’m going to the dealer next week for a warranty replacement on the exhaust heat exchanger that’s clogged hopefully they’ll do something to help

My ’22 had a small rust bubble above the windshield on the crease of the roof. I seem to remember another member mentioning this which was the reason I checked. Sorry no pictures because I no longer have the truck.

After all the recalls and parts replacements after the recalls (headliner, pillars, glove box, etc) I asked the Service Manager about the rust spot. After inspection it was determined it was indeed rust, would not be a sand and paint repair but would be covered under warranty. I asked what the repair would entail and after he told me the roof would be replaced I asked if that also meant the headliner. When he said yes my head was flooded with all the past events and I was even more convinced to trade my ‘22 in for my ‘23 Which was ordered through a different dealer. I figured as a dealer they could get the warranty work done on their time.

Aluminum corrosion can blister paint. Jeep Wranglers went to mostly aluminum bodies a few years ago and ran into blistering paint at locations such as external steel hinges connected to aluminum body parts. This is not uncommon in most such aluminum vehicles. Range Rover had the same problems. Most of those owners refused to accept that aluminum corrodes even when studies from the NIST and ASTM described the different types of aluminum alloys and types of corrosion.
In a study by Jeep it was determined that a speck of steel dust on an aluminum panel before painting could cause paint to blister. They wouldn't let non-aluminum certified dealers/paint shops repair under warranty because normal paint processes will contaminate the new paint again.
Don't know if this is the problem here because OP hasn't come back with any evidence of what happened.
Yes, I believe that Jeep started using aluminum in 2018/2019. I have a 2015 Wrangler and it doesn't have aluminum. The corrosion was pretty bad around the door hinges and the only way to fix was to repaint.

It’s called aluminum oxidation and is whitish color. It’s probably raildust it leaves a orange color but can be removed
