Always with the negative waves, Moriarty, always with the negative waves...

I LOVE my Maverick EcoBoost! No issues in 11 months. It drives like a comfortable car, runs like a scalded cat, fits in a parking space and gets over 30MPG. I like everything about it.

Do I wish it had a different gadget and gilhickey? Meh, not really. I drive to get where I am going. I can drive 220 miles, pick up a thousand pounds of oats for the horses, do a couple of hours of sightseeing in Amish country, and then drive 220 miles home, feeling quite refreshed. This thing is a day trip delight.

I have been driving my regular cab, 2wd Mazda pickup since 1999. I very much prefer the Maverick!

You are going to be amazed by your new truck. Positive waves, baby!
Hey Chicolini....how about I bring over some great pasta and a bottle or red and we talk about it?

Did you know it is possible to push the mirror up until it almost touches the center trim piece?
It's already there, it is not nearly far enough.

If you haven't already, grab the top and bottom of the rear view mirror with both hands and lift up gently. It's on an articulating arm so the whole thing can move up and down, meaning it won't be so low on the windshield. Obviously it can only go so high with the camera module occupying a bit of space.

No idea why they ship these vehicles with their rear view mirrors so low...
I did that right away, that camera module is in the way, if the swivel arm of the mirror was about 1-1/2 inches longer, that would take care of the problem, no such item anywhere on the internet. I did try putting 2 arms together to extend it & that worked great except the mirror shook even on a smooth road, & the mirror was blurry, making me nauseous.

  1. POS backup camera combined with a slow electronic architecture gives poor image that is laggy - I have already created an NHTSA complaint on this.
  2. Unwanted stop-start system to game federal CAFE standards unnecessarily stresses and ages the AGM battery.
  3. Cheap gas filler door pops open.
  4. Maverick is stupidly large and poorly optimized - at least two feet too long for what it is.
  5. The feeling that every part and piece in the vehicle (except the strangely overpowered Ecoboost engine) came from the bottom of the parts bin to meet price targets, which doesn't induce optimism about longevity.
Hey, at 12,000 miles I'm satisfied with my Maverick until something better comes out. But the OP asked what I don't like about it, so there it is.

I've heard a few people complain about the camera. That one does concern me a bit.

-Double pull hood latch.
You’d rather stick your hand under a filthy hood and engine compartment to fish around for a hood latch?

I thought this was one of those “Why didn’t somebody think of this sooner?” features.

I love it.

Yes. I haven't had any issues with mine, even since the hood strut kit I installed, but I am 60 years old and like the fact of the secondary safety lever due to being old school ........:) Of course using a light tension spring attached to the hood latch area would be nice. I do know there is a thread on this forum about a hood tension spring on Amazon that has been used by some owners and it helps with the second pull.

I'm not familiar with this. Can you explain?
Unlike other pickups with a big gap between the box and cabin, maverick doesn't have a gap there. If you mount a tonneau cover water will accumulate on the bulkhead until you inevitably get leak into the bed. The only saving grace is that the leak is typically on one corner so you won't get everything wet in the bed.

Oh, that makes sense. I would have never thought of that. Will definitely keep an eye on it then.
