Did yours get fixed ?@Ford Motor Company are you watching this email thread? FORD should be putting out a TSB regarding this issue as it needs to be addressed for quite a few people.
It's a plastic post that I think is attached to the windshield that goes through an opening in the sheet metal. There is one at each top corner of the windshield. Mine only rattled top right (sound made it seem like it was in the dash area from sitting in the drivers seat) but we did address both sides.Be nice if there was a detailed video or instructions so we can DIY. Especially for those that don't want to waste time and possibly lose truck for days running to multiple dealers. Ultimately being told they can't replicate issue or it's normal.
Is the pic pointing at what looks like a bracket with an x? Is there more than one that needs to be removed/filed?
Nope, need to take it back in, been waiting for my schedule to be such that I can be without a truck for a couple of days, they were "unable to diagnose" last time which I found comical because you can't not hear it. My wife had picked it up for me as I was away for work and didn't want to mess with leaving it there.Did yours get fixed ?
Thanks for the update,,,,, i truly hate taking anything to the Dealer for service, even warranty items.Nope, need to take it back in, been waiting for my schedule to be such that I can be without a truck for a couple of days, they were "unable to diagnose" last time which I found comical because you can't not hear it. I did find out though that it isn't the bottom right at the dash like I thought. While driving with me, a buddy pushed on the windshield on the UPEER right and the rattle stops. Definitely, the window clicking against something...perhaps this plastic post is indeed the culprit.
Thanks, the pic had me thinking it could be accessed by just removing the A Pillar cover, because that would be relatively easy. But maybe it's higher towards the headliner. It's a plastic post that I think is attached to the windshield that goes through an opening in the sheet metal. The hotline contact ID with ford and the original dealer that Joeboxer helped me with is: 119843940
The DIY of this would involve dropping the headliner, which isn't the easiest unless you do it a bunch, so my recommendation is anyone that still needs to do the Airbag recall, headliner needs to be dropped for that anyway. But then as long as something soft is between the locating dowel and the sheetmetal, it'll be fixed.
I have to imagine with the hotline number that Ford would issue a TSB for this.
How did you get foam tape in there? So I finally got to the bottom of this. Thanks to the help of joeboxer22.
I think when most people are getting their windshield replaced, the techs are removing the alignment dowels that are used at the factory for the robots to align the windshield. When mine was replaced, those dowels were left in but not needed when a human is replacing the windshield. Here is a pic of what the dowel looks like:

There is direct contact there of hard plastic and the sheet metal of the roof.
We had to drop the headliner for the airbag recall anyway, filed the dowels down a bit and put some foam tape between the dowel and the metal.
Got about 200 miles on the truck in varying temps and safe to say the click is finally gone!
No Idea, these were pics from my service advisor. But that secondary sheet metal on the roof probably is compliant enough. How did you get foam tape in there?
Did the dealer do this?I got my ticking resolved by having the plastic alignment pieces at the right/left top corner of the windshield. These can be accessed by removing the a-pillar and pulling the headliner back.
I had a glass company do it…as they had just installed a new OEM windshield and ticking was worse. I imagine a Dealer would do it if Ford told them too or had a procedure to follow. The dealer get squirmy with glass.Did the dealer do this?
So you instructed a glass company (Safelite?) to take out those plastic pieces? And they just listened to you? I just dealt with Safelite to replace my windshield with the same issue and they wouldn't because the windshield wasn't damaged.I had a glass company do it…as they had just installed a new OEM windshield and ticking was worse. Yep. Called them up and said my windshield was making a ticking noise after install. The tech came to my house, rode with me and heard the sound. I showed him this blog and pictures of people having removed/cut alignment rod and that the noise went away. He said sounds good let’s take them off….I want you to be happy.
