Is getting a sport exhaust worth it for a hybrid?

Ford no doubt has engineered in the exact exhaust back pressure to maximize torque in the proper rpm range. I would leave it alone especially since the engine is in harmony with the electric motor. Much less going from Ferrari rap to silence during mode change, leaving people scratching their head.
Exactly -- Ford has doubtlessly spent a ton of money and time optimizing the entire systems for best performance and economy. And even if -- IF -- you got a little MPG boost from an aftermarket exhaust, it would probably take 250,000 miles of driving to recoup the cost of buying and installing it.

I have the Roush axle back exhaust on my 2015 Mustang GT. Totally worth it for that. It sounds deeper and more assertive than the factory installation.

I'm getting an XL hybrid and my build week is a week and a half away. When the truck arrives, will I be doing the same thing?

Absolutely not.
LOL. I have the same exhaust on my Mustang GT and love it. Aftermarket exhaust on a Maverick? Heck no!

Need to get a Thor Electronic Exhaust, then you can make it sound like a hot rod, Corvette, 12 other iconic car sounds, OR a Fighter Jet....
Wow hadn't thought of that. Could have Abrams tank at combat idle sound maybe with track clunking sounds when in creep mode! AKA neighborhood patrol mode!

Does anyone live in areas where the highways have steep inclines like they do in southern California. I am curious to know if you notice a drop off in performance in the hybrid when traveling up hills on the freeway at speeds of 70 to 80 mph. I had a 1990's jeep wrangler with a 4.0L and it struggled up hill until I got a high performance filter and exhaust. Night and day.

I would get an optional exhaust for the hybrid if it doesn’t rust as bad as the stock exhaust. I saw a video of the Maverick’s undercarriage (Munro on YouTube) and a new Maverick’s exhaust was already rusting bad.

I could see someone adding an exhaust to the hybrid. The reasons for doing so would be a bit different from the the norm though.

A) REDUCE engine noise
B) More rust resistence
C) Weight savings
D) Maybe an MPG boost

$10 can of Blaster Surface Shield from Home Depot fixes that right up.

Have you ever put an exhaust on a lawn mower? Because that’s what it’ll sound like. Those CVTs cause the engine to be droney at higher speeds, so I couldn’t imagine with an exhaust. It’s like putting an exhaust on a Prius. Seems a little odd.
the only thing I wonder about is why does the exhaust cross over from one side to the other by the spare tire. Not having my Maverick yet, Is there something in the way that does not allow the pipe to go straight back from the muffler to the resonator on the passenger's side where the muffler is?

The real advantage of a CVT is it allows the engineers to optimize the engine parameters for a narrow operating range. That's why it tends to sound "droney". The ICE in the hybrid is solely optimized for mileage in a narrow range, probably 30-50 mph. The mileage goes down at highway speeds as you are running the engine above this range. If the noise bothers you, either get a quieter muffler or an angled exhaust tip extension. You can try aiming it in different directions in order to find a lower perceived noise level.

Didn't you all see the Munro video where they discussed the underside of the hybrid Maverick??? that exhaust is not going to last, might as well get ahead of it.

I don’t understand this. If you’re slowly accelerating from 25mph to 30mph, or coasting at 65 mph (fighting air resistance), could the engine be running at the exact same RPM in both of these situations? The only difference is the gear ratio of the eCVT? This engine has a wide range of RPM where the thermal efficiency is 38-39%(maximum) efficient. I don’t see how stating a specific speed range makes sense in terms of what is optimal for the engine efficiency itself.

Mileage goes down at high speeds, generally, because of air resistance I thought. No matter what motor or vehicle basically.

Maybe in Houston...
A few people touched on it but I would like a nice 304SS option for the hybrid just because the stock exhaust looks like an aluminized POS. So after 6-7 years (maybe less) you do a SS catback, and you rest easy. Will there be something available? Hard to say, but I hope so. The other option is a custom job which will likely be just as expensive or more...and probably 409SS.

You're correct... eCVT benefits come from keeping the engine in an efficient rpm range while accelerating and adjusting the gear ratio accordingly. At cruising speeds there are limited benefits other than a lower final drive. (and i am not even sure if they do have a lower final drive ratio)

When I saw that video, I wondered at first if it was a pre-production prototype with a mild steel exhaust with zero coating. That’s one item I’m sure I will swap out. I plan on keeping mine for at least 10-12 years so the $100 or so for a stainless muffler won’t be wasted.
