Hey Maverick haters and lovers, sometimes it is hard to tell around here. Several friends and Mav owners have pointed out that the Ford Maverick OEM trailer hitch #NZ6Z-17D826-C seems a little pricy at $336.00! It is but is not terrible compared to Toyota and over brands. I chose to go with the DIY option for two reasons, availability and cost. Not only has the Ford unit been on backorder for months, and as life would have, it became available the day after I finished my installation, but also, at $22 ($16 with coupon), the DIY option was very attractive. It is also nice to see that as of June 2022, there are several model-specific aftermarket units available.

Anyhow, here is another video tutorial for your consideration. I think you will find a lot of helpful information regardless of what unit you choose. Thank you all for watching and for supporting the channel! I appreciate it.

** And before you choose to pay $130.00 to your Ford dealer to install it, I suggest you watch the video and see what I found!

Mine cost me 27$. Customized a bit ..... But what's it gonna matter. This truck is rated at 2000#... Bolted thru the factory crash bar and it will not fail within the 2000# limit....

... I found the mod quite easy even for those with limited tools. And depending on whether you get it done at the dealer or not we are talking about $300 to $400 saving!

Great job!

Hi JC,

Thanks for this posting. You did a great job of documenting this low cost approach to adding a hitch.

I do have one comment, though. I installed the Ford OEM #NZ6Z-17D826-C trailer hitch on my Ford Maverick XLT that lacked a receiver. After removing the original bumper bar, I visually compared it with the one with the replacement part which weighed noticeably more. I don't know what points you measured on the Lariat you inspected to come to the conclusion that the bumper bars were identical (other than the welded on receiver), but I think you missed a significant difference.

Comparing the two parts, with just my eyballs I could see that the brackets flanges that accept the 8 mounting bolts (used to connect the bar to the truck frame) were made of thicker gauge metal on the replacement part with the receiver than on the original part that did not have the receiver. There may have been other differences as well - I wish I'd made some measurements. Perhaps it will not make a significant difference with a light trailer, but I surmise that the beefier part had to be created to increase the tow rating up to 4K lbs.

… Hey @Mile777 and hope you are doing well, and I get your point. But also understand I am not claiming 4k capabilities. The 4K package is more than just a hitch.

With that said, I would rather keep mine after seeing the Class III unit U-haul is selling for the Maverick.

I have a 17-foot Mako skiff which is about 2250 wet, and this will more than suffice!

The square tube across the back is the same gauge as the crash bumper, which is what I measured. I am not sure that making the ears that meet the subframe any havier would have an impact since the subframe rails they are bolting on to are not any different on the 4K package.

Aside from that, I added the .250 X 1-inch angle brace just for peace of mind!

I'm running a hybrid so no options over 2k for me. Looking at the thickness of the unibody frame vs even the factory crash bar and it's easy to tell which is thinner...

I see Trailer hitch with 4-pin connector is $100 on Ford Build Your Maverick page.

That's what it was when I ordered and would recommend EVERYONE to pay the extra $100 and get it installed during assembly and not after market. Even if you have no intention of pulling a trailer. It can come in handy. And if you don't plan on keeping the truck until the day you take it to a junk yard it can and will help with the resale.

Wasn't there someone on here claiming that their dealer voided their warranty for using a non Ford hitch? I mean, that can't be right, right?

Yes, it is, but it was backed order during the last ordering cycle. In fact, it was not even available from the dealers. My sources tell me that Ford has a new supplier.

I would highly recommend using locking nuts if you are going to be towing. There's a lot of movement back there in all directions and when those nuts work them self loose hopefully no one is hurt.
