Oh interesting. I did not notice that. I wonder if they can fake it on the next one they do. Like take the pictures twice a little skewed and say it was from my truck? Anyway i'm sure they didn't take pictures.
To prevent the dealership from doing just that, Ford also wants a picture of the barcode from the front of the fuel tank, which is specific to each vehicle.

I dropped mine off on Monday due to the recall and was able to get it back last night. Technician said that it passed and it's good to go. He explained to me everything that has been discussed in this thread and the other, bigger thread talking about the recall. If your dealer is reputable, I can't imagine they would try to skirt the problem.

Good luck to everyone.

Looks like the paint was scratched off when the mechanic was fighting that bolt with locktite on it. If that’s the case, I hope he at least rattle canned that spot before re-assembly?

wow! dropping the tank for the inspection and reassembling all that exhaust piping too! Seems like a small fisheye inspection camera to just poke down the drilled hole to see what the tank looks like might save an enormous amount of time and cost.

That was my first thought when I started reading this post. Endoscopic photos would be the practical way to make the initial inspection. But it comes down to long term liability and customer confidence in Ford. One lost lawsuit over a fatal fire caused by a missed defect would be more expensive than the cost of R&R every Maverick fuel tank.

Looks like that was from the heat when he had to weld a piece of metal to the broken bolt to extract it.

Back in 1980's or so, Ford had a vehicle (might have been the Pinto) that a rear in collusion caused gas tank mounting bracket to puncture the gas tank and on occasion cause a fire/explosions.. .many millions were expensed to casualties. I'm sure Ford is covering their rear-ends (literally) and knows how to do that with these pictures and documentation...plus concern for public safety.

I'd bet that Ford or any mfg is responsible for notifying customers of manufacturing recalls ONLY after the customer has taken delivery...

I’m assuming all without Ford provided SIBL have nothing to worry about. I and everyone adding a SIBL should make a concerted effort to make sure my local SIBL dealers knows to not drill out drain holes with a drill bit. It looks like the drain holes affected would be the ones furthest to the front of the bed. It would not be safe to pass a tank that has been even touched with a drill bit since the gas tank under pressure could cause future problems. I'd also bet that the subcontract tank source installed the fuel pump, and anything attached to the fuel cell since they would have to be the ones providing a pressure and leak test.

All this sounds like 1 line worker and 1 supervisor taking a shortcut.

Both, look to the left side of the bolt hole, there appears to be several small scratches that go to metal.

At the very least they should put a coat of primer on followed by a coat of spray can body color.

I had considered that, but I was only suggesting a possible inspection to see if the tank needs to be dropped. From the pictures on page 2 of this topic it seems one might be able to discern if *any* scratch occurred on the tank. Ford could supply similar images of what an untouched tank looks like thru the inspection scope and all others should be dropped and replaced. And if need be, have 2 technicians sign off on agreement that no intrusion occurred and save the photos. But I really don't know if all the service shops have the same scopes. And I will admit, I might have been a bit hasty in another thread suggesting rubber plugs be used to preserve the thread holes prior to spraying. My experience was with painting and powder coating in which it works fine. Bedliner is much thicker and obviously bridges gaps so hoping or a clean removal might be more challenging.

Dropped mine off before the new year. So far I've been in rentals for weeks.

Broke my drive shaft bolts, had to order and wait the long weekend.

Couldn't reuse an exhaust clamp for fear of an exhaust leak... Ford had not released the parts for sale.. Wait a week.

Part was ordered with no eta or tracking. Ford dealer tells me "could be tomorrow, could be next month"

Had the first rental fail on me twice and now on my third car in three weeks. Getting tired of this and regretting Ford all together with the way the dealers treat the customer.

I wonder if that thing will blow out a "real" spare tire and not just a temporary donut or the infamous el-cheapo full size spare.
This "blowout" bracket may be the reason the full size tire is not quite a full size (the full size tire is too big to fit there???)!🤗🤗
